Which one is faster? HD4870 or 3870X2?

4870 most of the time, here's some proof so you don't think it's just an opinion:

Your sig is huge, why don't you remove the spaces in between all the lines? Same amount of information in less area.

If this upgrade is for the system in your sig, with that resolution your current card should be fine.

thanks but i wana be able to run Crysis on at least high without lag, do you guys have any idea what the coolest high end graphics card is? should be higher end than my current.

Assuming a resolution of 1280?1024 for your monitor, looks like the 4870 can't do it (I'm assuming "lag" for you means no dipping under 30):

4850CF looks promising, but I don't like that they only list a single number because I don't really know what that number is, average or high. However, that's not something you can run.

If we guesstimate the 1280?1024 results from 19?12 here, looks like possible contenders right now are the GTX280 and 9800GX2. Unless you want to go the SLI route, Then it looks like 8800GTs can do it...hell I bet another one of your 8800GTS 320MB SLIed could do it.

None of these run cool and it really shouldn't be something you're all that worried about unless you planned on overclocking.

Kind of a waste though considering how stupidly overpowered your video setup is going to be for a single game.

so your saying my native res is too low? LOL I dont get how that works, but ok. Do you know what pin connectors i need for a gtx 280?

if I sli my 8800gts, im afraid about temp. I dont want them to overheat.

Your native resolution doesn't require the kind of power the GTX280 and 9800GX2 have to offer *except* for in Crysis. As in those cards are better suited for 19?12 or higher where the power they offer is actually used. Basically, either of those single card solutions would be overkill for your resolution.

I believe it requires a six pin and an eight pin.

Well the most cost effective solution is to SLI 8800GTS 320MB, just get aftermarket cooling if they really do get hot. You probably won't need them, but if you do it'll still come out cheaper.

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
