Gaming in HD

Recommended Posts

So up until today, while at school, I played my Xbox 360 in HD by swapping cables and connecting it to my 19" 4:3 computer monitor. It was nice and looked great. Back home here I'd go back to SDTV (my parents haven't caved quite yet). Well I finally went out today and bought a 26" Vizio and, with my 360 hooked to it through VGA, couldn't really be happier. I played a few games of Halo and a bit of GTA, and right now I'm watching LotR being upscaled and looking pretty suave. I'm pretty stoked about this purchase :woot:

Now, how long til we get our Bluray add-on... :shiftyninja: :p

doesn't you have a 360 with compnant video cables so ya can go through them instead of VGA you may get higher Rez options

Nah :p

I got my 360 back in Jan. 06, when there was hardly a supply. My only option was to get the Core, and buy the HDD addon. Since we have SDTV's here at home, that didn't bother me, and I just bought a VGA cable for swapping at school with my computer monitor. I'm not complaining though, as I'm getting a pretty crystal clear 720p either way.

I think I've been spoiled as a Predominantly PC gamer in my past. Last console I owned before this generation was a PS1.

I would always try to play games in 1024x768 or higher resolution and when using emulators, I would always get them to upscale everything as best they could. Wipeout HD? Been there, done that years ago =P

In fact, when Microsoft first announced about Halo 1 being upscaled on the 360 and it being a revolutionary thing, I actually laughed because I'd technically already played it in HD some time ago thanks to having a decent PC.

But I've got a 360 now and couldn't be happier.

us who game on PCs have had HD for long while but now i think more then ever the HD gaming format has chanced because it is not about just higher Resolution but rather higher Resolutions and visual quality in the realism of the games we play now and with the 360 and more or so the 360 it is a standard platform in witch it is the only thing developers need to Develop for. with the PC ther is many configurations to program for on game to game so HD while still here for PC gaming it is not as HD as we would like for those like me who dont have High end rig to run 1680x1050 or so with everything maxed ya know.

i like both PCs and consoles but only own a Pc and a Wii so mmm tho if i had the cash on me right now i would go get me a Xbox 360+GTA4 and that be it

I'm with Kushan, PC gaming spoilt HD for me, when HD gaming on consoles arrived circa 2005, I had been gaming in HD since early 2000, you may argue that HD also means textures, but without PC gaming setting the way with higher screen resolutions those high detail textures would look nasty on standard definition. Without PC gaming HD gaming would have taken even longer.

gotta love the HD, bioshock, crysis and COD4 all looked amazing on my 24" @ 1920x1200. I've never considered buying a console, however, bioshock did look amazing on my friends 42" tv from his 360.. and i remember the 360 getting xvid support with its last firmware upgrade which makes it even more attractive.

720p is also "true hd".

1080p is "full hd" or whatever their calling it.

The 360 and PS3 are both true HD consoles. We

I have a 32" Sharp LCD and its 1376x768 or something... I noticed if I run things at 1080i, it downscales nicely and produces a much sharper image than upscaling 720p to 768p.
