Do you remember when people made an effort to make good music?

Wait you mean ###### cat dolls aren't the latest and greatest

LEAVE THE ###### CAT DOLLS ALONE, THEY'RE HURTING RIGHT NOW...

@ OP, Vh1, had some nice shows, I would generally avoid it, nowadays it's 90% rubbish shows 9% bad music ( like PSD) and 1% of something one might like...

Mtv2 isn't quite as bad, but is alot better than mTv.

I always find myself listening to more music pre 2000 and even way back 1960,70s

It depends entirely on what "good" is. Music, like any other media, changes with the times. The "good music" of yester-year was once the new music of a previous generation, I'm sure people were calling Rock and Roll bad music compared to the music of 'Lawrence Welk'.

Like everything else, things change. You need to be willing to accept change as it happens, a rhythmic beat of notes IS music, no matter what form it takes after that.

Here's a link to listen live on Sydney's FBI.FM http://www.fbi.org.au/content.php/753.html

Some killer indie stuff here all the time.

And tiagosilva29, I wish you would put your sig back, I thought it was great.

well I've been listening to Muse lately. Can't stop either. lol.

Oh my god, Muse is...there aren't words to describe how good they are...wow, they are without a doubt my favorite (sorry Radiohead but you're #2). there is not a day where I don't listen to one of their albums. :p

Matthew's voice is incredible!

To all people that said that there are no good music acts these days or that all good music its from just two to three bands... how limited you are all!

Every years amazing music its produced, but it seems that you are expecting it to come from the wrong sources. Dig a little people!

I had the radio on the other day while I was doing a power sunroof conversion on my car. A song came on that immediately enraged me so much because it was so awful and trashy. "I kissed a girl." So yeah, mainstream music sucks.

Pfft at all you people who say music is dying, you just don't know where to look. A great resource in Australia is Triple J, they also have a webstream on their site. There's no such thing as "commercials" (as it's run by the ABC) and they play a lot of local stuff, sometimes grabbing tracks off their Unearthed website. Other people from AU on the forums surely would have heard of it/listen to it, but for any other readers:

How do you define what "good" music is? Does it have to have deep meaningful lyrics? Or a slow peaceful beat? You can't define what good music is to people and tell them what is good and what is not. You can't base it on lyrics, beat, rhythm.

As far as mainstream music, it's mainstream for a reason. People like it. They think it's good. If an artist that was formerly unknown but became mainstream do you think they would lose they're musical talent they originally had? And I'm talking about the musical talent here, not their style. Style changes, they have their own vision and way they want the music to sound.

I like anything from oldies in the '70s and '80s to new pop/rock. Do I have to be a musician to know what good music is? I don't think so. I'll listen to any song. I think it's a matter of taste.

For those that don't think there are any good rock bands anymore, check out The Gaslight Anthem from New Jersey. They're currently playing Australia, and will be coming back to the states for a few months. They sound like a cross between Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, The Bouncing Souls, and Billy Bragg (if you're into those type of bands) and have an amazing way of writing lyrics/songs. They've only been around for 2 and a half years, but have been gaining a rapid following all over the world. Check em out and lemme know what you think. (this isn't spam...just putting in my 2 cents)

But yeah, for the most part, pop/top 40 music has always been crap. For some reason, though, people seem to respect that type of music 10-20 years after they hit the charts. There's tons of artists out there that write respectable artists out there that don't care about being part of it.

Do I have to be a musician to know what good music is?

In a way, yes. You need to understand music at a technical level to say how well constructed a tune is. But everyone, with or without knowledge have the right to like anything they want and no one has the right to tell you that your tastes are "wrong". Not everyone should like the same thing.

then there are the likes of 50 cent, Soulja boy and the countless other "artists" that do it for the money.

they can just pay someone to do a beat, they spend seconds making up a sentence, there you have it a song. Extra bonus if that sentence has to do with sex, drugs, and/or money.

I do understand that it is a matter of opinion and that everyone has to right to like what they like, like everybody else I am just voicing my opinion.

"Do you remember when people made an effort to make good music?"

Yes, and no. Really if the artist puts out music and he or she knows that people will like it or targeting a certain audience its good. But when some people go blindly into labels and let them control them I think its bad. Music from the artist is always better from their point of view or how they think others may think. Even if it isn't fully done by them but as long as they take their part and put in the "effort". Just remember everyone to their own. Music is what we define really in most cases and well theirs a heck of a lot of opinions around the world on what is good music ;).

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
