Do you remember when people made an effort to make good music?

I just want to know what the hell happened to the piano, all I ever hear is junk mixed together in a studio, never just a piano and a voice.

true it would be nice I think currently the only maybe mainstream artist with the piano right now is Alicia Keys some of her music is nice.

:&: I kissed a girl, and I liked it... :&: is a good song :punk:

lol, just thought i'd spice it up a bit. :shiftyninja:

It's just terrible both lyricaly and musically... Also I hate that thing she does with her voice, that retarded squeal thing that a lot of female singers seem to do a lot thesedays. It makes them sound tarty (and is harsh on the ears!)

Oh, and Soulja boy... Jeez.

I wouldn't put a blanket statement down and say no music is good nowadays, though I do believe there has been a major influx of crappy two-bit artists that really have no talent.

But then you have artists like Muse that are brilliant and have excellent lyrical and musical talent. And your hope doesn't dwindle so much

I don't know why people keep doggin on mainstream music. Isn't that what got us into loving music in the first place? Everyone has like a cheesy song at some point in their lives. If you don't like it, move onto something else. There's always something for someone.

No, it goes back to works derived from the 19th century. It wasn't really "mainstream" back then. The whole concept of Billboard and "top 40" is just something the shi**y music industry has done in the past century for the sake of making money.

There are still bands today that are making good music, but they're not be showcased on these idiot tv spots and mass marketed. That's always been the realm of the mainstream, moneymaking pop music industry. It's sad that something which is artistic has to have the word 'industry' attached to it, but the reality is it's a business.

Here are some still in existence bands that make good music. But sorry, many of them are not that well known:

Camera Obscura

The Cloud Room

Beulah

South

Travis (The Boy With No Name is classic Travis; still a great band)

Crowded House (their album from last year was excellent)

Hot Hot Heat

James

My Teenage Stride

Sondre Lerche

The Apples In Stereo

There are many many others. There are still people making good music. But for the most part, if you think you're going to hear it on mainstream Top 40 radio stations, you're living in a dream world. It's not to be found there.

Remember when music was good and fun?

When producers cared about artists and music?

When producers and artists cared about their music and the people?

Remember when you could actually feel the passion?

Nostalgia FTW. There's still good stuff out there, you just haven't found it yet.

Get Last.fm if you wanna find bands similar to the ones you like.

Yes, but just barely. So much crap music in the past few years (same can be said about movies too). Where's the albums (CD's) that have more than 2-3 decent songs on them?

June 2008? I can't remember the last time I bought an album where I didn't like the majority of what's on it. 100th Window by Massive Attack was the last major disappointment that I remember.

The last half-dozen albums I've bought at work are solid end-to-end.

The of course there are the free albums/online releases from Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead earlier in the year.

I picked a few winners when I was younger, but I also listened to a lot of crap: probably because my sense of style or taste wasn't as well developed as it is now. When you listen to music from the decades gone by you generally only hear the best-of-the-best. For every Hendrix there are dozens of 'crap bands' that were lost to history.

I suppose the death of radio is regrettable but it's been replaced by other ways to discover new music that are much more powerful. I'm glad to see it go and look forward to the day when television meets a similar fate.

* I bought the plastic disc version of the album because it wasn't on any online store
