I have a WiFi modem on my desktop, it was simple to setup, I just went to 192.168.1.1, then changed the settings and set the password(the 10 letter one). I opened my Laptop, switched on wifi, it found my network, and I put my password, and had it all running.

My question is, that how to I create a lan-like wireless network on this connection ie be able to share files, printers etc.

And depending on your wireless ROUTER. You might have to disable AP or Client isolation. Some wireless routers by default will block wireless clients from talking to each other for security reasons.

give the make and model number of what your calling a "modem" and we can check if has this type of feature, and where to turn it off.

I can't really see that the other computer is connected to mine and is accessing the internet on my computer. It's like the Modem is a totally different unit, which is not associated to my PC in any other way than the Ethernet wire from it to my PC.

And what IP address does your PC have? And what IP address does your wirelesss laptop/pc have?

If your device is natting.. then they would get some 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x or 172.16-31.x.x address.

Can they ping each other by IP? Do you have firewalls running in the PC or laptop that allow for icmp? If your behind a NAT, ie you have a private address -- then turn off all firewall software for testing.

And how did you find out what your PC IP is -- and why did you say its internal address? It only has 1 interface does it not?

As stated IPconfig will show you the IP addresses of your interface -- what has me confused is how you know what your desktop one is - but can not figure out your wireless one?

Can you ping your desktop from your laptop?

I'm a bit lost here, so here's what I know:

From IP config, my IP address is 192.168.1.16, Default gateway is 192.168.1.1

.

I can successfully ping both the IPs from my laptop.

Again, I'm telling you, that my laptop is able to access internet through the WiFi modem connected to my PC.

All I had to do is, setup the password and enable WiFi by entering 192.168.1.1 in my browser, and configuring accordingly.

So you PC is .16 and your router is .1 and your laptop is?

If you can ping your PC from your laptop -- your ON the same network and ready to go.. Enable File and Print sharing your good.

My laptop's ip is .2, and I can ping it successfully. Where do I enable File and Printer sharing? Is it in the network connnections->properties?

Keeping things simple...

You can run the "Network Setup Wizard" from the Communications..

Otherwise create a folder in a location.. Right click it -> Sharing and Security and put a tick in "Share this folder on the network"

I'm sorry, I dont really know this stuff.

So you're just shouting randoms?

If you suspect your laptop is using your computer's connection via ICS then just power down your machine and see if it can still access the net. Simple but yet an effective test.. :alien:

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.

    • "connect with audiences" is the most obvious corporate speak you can think of. I only bought Need for Speed from EA because it was the only racing game with cops in existence and I dig that. Now that they killed off NFS franchise, I have nothing to spend money on. EA is officially dead for me, just like Ubisoft which I've been boycotting for some 20 years now...
