toshiba satellite driver help

Question

I just installed windows XP pro (corp) onto my friends toshiba satellite u305-s5077 laptop (which came with vista). I'm very computer knowledgeable ... but for some reason the Audio will not work properly. Ive installed every driver I have come across (about 10 drivers total, from generic to MFG, intel, etc.) but there is still a (?) Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus. Ive installed the UAA driver first, then the HD drivers, but still no go. Any and all audio comes out very crackly and popping. Any and all help/input is greatly appreciated. Paz!

For a starting point, here is the list of official drivers:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su...kceghdgngdgmn.0

They seem to be refusing to state exactly which sound chip they are using, but the sound drivers are Realtek (I didn't see any for XP on Toshiba's site, but I'm guessing you probably already tried drivers directly from Realtek.com.tw ?).

To find out exactly what hardware is inside use the trial version of Lavalys Everest:

http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.p...=UE〈=en

The chipset is an Intel 943GML Express, install the chipset drivers/inf from Intel.

ok so after much messing around I realized some things...

-the drivers are installed and up to date, including chipset.

-any windows sounds come out distorted and crackling.

-if I demo the sound thru Realtek software, IT SOUNDS FINE.

I've performed mem tests, and DFTs and everything passes.

What the heck is going on with this thing??

I had the same problem so I used use the DriverPacks utility to create a XP install DVD that integrated a huge number of drivers.

This works for me 95% of the time without problem. The other 5% I can usually just manually install the correct driver or if its a problem with a storage controller, do the install again, but without the driverpacks.

I use nlite first to create an unattended install first in either case.

    • And none of them have a "notchless" 3:2 OLED screen, for which I was always willing to pay more.
