Thermalright TRUE Black or OCZ Vendetta 2 ?

Recommended Posts

Hello there Guys, I was just about to place my order for the Thermalright True Black Edition, but after reading around, the OCZ Vendetta 2 looks to be a pretty good cooler too.

I am trying to push my QX9770 Close to 4GHz or Near on Air Cooling.

So the question is, Which one do I go with: Thermalright TRUE Black or OCZ Vendetta 2?

Your Thoughst?

Xigmatek S1283? Noctua NH-U12P? Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer?

IMO those are all better choices than the TRUE Black. Xigmatek would probably be my top choice, and if you add maybe a Noctua NF-P12 on it, then it'll be even better.

Those would be the top two choices. Make sure to order the back plate if you order the Xigmatek.

So nobody wants to recommend the Thermalright? Any reasons? Remember I am trying to push my QX9770 to either 4GHz or near. So I need the BEST Air Cooling Solution.

Your Thoughts?

Like Shift and I said before, the Xigamatek and the NH-U12P have proven themselves again and again in reviews. If you want the Thermalright, nobody is stopping you. I don't know how much convincing you need. :p

Hello there guys, I didn?t wanted to start another thread about my question, so here it is. I am gona go with Thermalright TRUE Black and with two fans to keeps it cool. I know a lot of you guys told me to get the older version and I have that version. But I have a problem with that version. The problem is that when I installed the heatsink with fan, the heatsink wasn?t really tight. I use the clamp and I screwed all the screws, but still the heatsink was moving around on the processor. I didn?t feel safe. So if someone had this problem, please tell me what I am doing wrong.

And also can you guys recommend me good fans for my Thermalright TRUE Black. And Should I go with One or Two Fans? Also noise is no problem with me. As long as my Processor is cooled off really Good!

Your Thoughts?

Don't know what you're doing wrong exactly as I can't quite picture what you're describing, but if you went back through the instructions and made sure everything is in the correct place, then it's simply a matter of tightening the heatsink down.

With regards to fans, I'm going to recommend some Deltas. :D Okay okay, Scythe S-Flex's or San Ace 1011's.

Most people will agree that IFX-14 ≈ TRUE.

If the reason you are getting the TRUE Black is because your first TRUE was "loose" then you'll encounter the same problem again, they use the same mounting system.

I'd say TRUE Black, but again; I must reiterate that the TRUE is not the best choice in this situation.

Top 3 are as follows:

1) Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer

2) Xigmatek S1283

3) Themalright Ultra 120

That, in addition to the Xigmatek S1283 and OCZ Vendetta 2 having WAY better value is why I would choose those two.

But to answer your question, I would say that 2 fans is not worth having the extra noise on your heatsink, one would be enough.

And for choice of fans, I would go with a Noctua NF-P12. Those fans have good static pressure, so they move air really well through the fins without having to spin at high RPM.

Thermalright's products are the king, that's for sure. However, most people tend to also factor price into their purchases...which is what takes down the TRUE.

Or if you get one with a FUBAR'd base like he did. It is not an uncommon problem with TRUEs. Let's see how the Black one does, maybe they fixed the base on it.

Fans:

Scythe, Noctua, Panalfo, Nexus, Zalman, Silverstone, Xigmatek, Evercool, Arctic Cooling, Yate Loon, Cooler Master, Antec...

Basically, look for fans that are not Sleeve. Sleeve is the cheap alternative, hydro-magneto-double-whatever-bearing are the good ones.

I just got the TRUE black about a month ago and I can say it is still a little loose, but using the "washer mod" pretty much alleviated the problem. For reference, I use 2 Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F (1600RPM) fans and they are VERY quiet.

Perhaps you can try the washer mod with your current TRUE and see if it helps before buying any other cooler.

Another vote for Xigmatek, ThermalRight is over-priced and they have been a little incosistent in manufacturing quality in my experience (concave bases on a couple units I have tried).

I think I read it somewhere that they deliberately didn't make it flat, but it could just be one of their excuses :p
