Launching Aqua Taskforce for Mac OS X users WTF!

Recommended Posts

Source: here

One of the first requests I received after launching the Windows UX Taskforce was ?when can you make one for Mac OS X?. This came at a surprise to me beca didn?t know OS X had user experience flaws, but apparently it did and still do.o.I Having said that today I?m proud to launch Aqua Taskforce, a taskforce site for Apple users to submit, vote and comment on OS X user experience quirks.

Windows UX Taskforce has also been renamed to Aero Taskforce for consistency. One login will work on both sites.

On the front-end you?ll probably notice that the site is visually different with a distinct Apple styling - which looks amazing I should add. Special credits to my friend Oscar for the hard work and more ahead of him. Don?t worry Windows users, Aero Taskforce is next in line to receive a visual makeover.

However what I?m more proud of is the changes on the back-end which some might have noticed via the different URLs. The new back-end has been re-engineered to support multiple (taskforce) sites with one codebase and a shared login system. Now I can deploy multiple Taskforces in just a matter of minutes. If you run a business and are interested in setting up a hosted but customized taskforce site for your products or services, please contact me.

Why do you sound so surprised?

I mean, it's great Long's doing this. Just don't take this site as a "see, your user interface isn't all that perfect" statement and treat it as a place to constructively build suggestions for improvement.

No no no i thought long was doing the job for windows, but hey this news are welcomed for OSx users, and i think it's very positive!

Just to keep you all informed

FYI: I was being very sarcastic in my post. Obviously no operating system is perfect and even though Mac OS X is still ahead of Windows in terms of user experience, there's still room for improvement :)

Jejej of course i'd knew that :p however i can't get used to the 3 ball window managment in OSX,and minimizing the apps can be really serious because by some reason i can't find my app anymore :p

So for me i guess windows give me a better expierence, but it needs alot of work indeed, there is alot lot more space to work on

Hey long, hope to see good news in the Aero taskforce proyect, keep up the good work

Congrats!

The dock is hit or miss with me, especially if you have multiple files open in the same app, Expose helps though. I use the 2D dock too, the 3D dock just looks poor.

I do wish there was a way to force Safari 4 to open links in new tabs, instead of windows, without doing cmd+click, the whole point of a tabbed browser, is to have a cleaner browser UI, but Safari 4 fails. (and I've tried the boolean command in terminal, and that only works for 3.1).

I would use the 3D dock if it didn't insist on reflecting the windows that sit right above it (like when I use Safari full screen). It looks awful with a huge white stripe across the top, and even worse when the bottom of the window has something colourful on display so it reflects that as well. It's the 2D dock or nothing for me, unfortunately.

Why are you using Safari 4?

Because I wanted to see what the big deal was over the web application feature, and just any other general improvements. It's not bad at all, and it's seems to crash less than 3.1. However, it's just a waste if all links open in new windows, rather than tabs, which leads to a lot of clutter. And I don't like Webkit, even though it's basically the same browser, WK is always very unstable for me.

Another thing I really don't like in Leopard, are the default folder icons for Documents, Videos, Pictures, etc. The medium gray on light blue is very low contrast, and doesn't stand out well, same with the 3D dock, and it's little bubbles underneath active applications. It's like Apple took what worked fine in Tiger, and changed it, just for the sake of making it look new and shiny.

If you want web apps, use Fluid which is far better than Safari 4's implementation. WebKit is as solid as Safari 3.1--delete your plist if you're having trouble or don't use beta plugins.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
