A user on BlueTights' The Planet Forum got a chance to meet Superman: Man of Steel co-writer Michael Dougherty at the U.S. Capitol and asked him about the sequel:

I asked him if he was a part of the sequel because everything I have seen says [bryan] Singer and [Dan] Harris are writing the script and that he isn't mentioned. He confirmed that he is writing it with the two just like the last picture. I then expressed to him that I was hoping the delays of Superman: The Man of Steel weren't true. He said that they were on track and that the goal is still to have the movie out in the Summer of 2009. He seemed a little hesitant about it but did his best to try and reassure that it will get done by then. I asked if he could give any more info on the film. He responded, "There are TWO villains," and he smiled.

Brandon Routh is returning in the title role for the Warner Bros. release.

Superman Returns was actually pretty boring for me so I hope this one will be better in terms of action and storyline.

Scirwode

I loved Superman Returns. As a huge fan of the original Superman movie (and part 2) I was glad to see it as a continuation of the original movie more or less. And yes, in Returns Superman was actually SUPER! I mean, he lifted a giant landmass into space! And that airplane scene was amazing, period.

Routh did a bang up job as Superman, and as Clark Kent. I could do with a new actress as Lois though, I just don't really like you know who. And the Superkid story could be quite interesting actually, so we'll see.

As for a villian, Doomsday. I know he's gonna be in Smallville, but it won't be quite the same Doomsday I'm sure. Perhaps even bring in another DC Superhero to help out. I dunno.

The next Superman movie may reboot the comic book franchise, reports Variety.

Warner Bros is allegedly unhappy with the direction of 2006's Superman Returns, which opted to link to the earlier Christopher Reeve movies as opposed to updating the story.

Some in the studio are debating whether or not to rebrand the series as they did with Batman origin story Batman Begins.

"It might be better to start from scratch," an unnamed Warner Bros. executive said.

No writers have been hired for the next instalment, though Superman Returns helmer Bryan Singer may return should he agree on which to direction to take the DC Comics character.

Marvel took a similar creative approach with this summer's The Incredible Hulk, a film that chose to ignore Ang Lee's successful 2003 adaptation.

I agree that we need more fight scenes....come on man..... superman supposed to be stronger than Hulk or anyone.....let's see some damage and eye melting war-ing superman. lol

and he should get his fair share of blows too. lol

tired of the drama with Lois....time for him to find a new chick...maybe he can borrow Leonardo Dicaprio's black book for some phone numbers.

Rebranding Superman would be a mistake at this point. I think that the Hulk crew made a good move though for the newest movie. But even if they don't change the name of the movie or whatever, they need to keep the same kind of look and feel but really step up the plot and action to gain interest and keep continuity.

I agree. Rebooting Superman would be a mistake because what about the kid? Can't forget about him. They just need to give him some difficult opponents. We are tired of Lex Luthor. Give Superman opponents that will give him hell and kick his butt. Opponents as tough as him.

Mark Millar wants to create an epic 8-hour screen story which will follow the entire life of Kal-El from his birth on Krypton a thousand years ago, until he is the last being left on Earth.

Empire sat down for a chat with comic book writer and creator Millar, the man behind Wanted and the upcoming Kick-Ass, and he filled us in on his pitch for the follow-up to Superman Returns.

Mark has been working closely with a ?big-Hollywood action director? ? who he refuses to name at this stage ? on a pitch for what he is calling the Magnum Opus of Superman stories. His idea is for an 8-hour saga, split into 3 films to be released a year apart, in a Lord of the Rings fashion. Although several other sources have reported similar conversations with Mark, he went into further detail, fleshing out the story arc a little more.

?It?s gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him. The Dark Knight showed you can take a comic book property and make a serious film, and I think the studios are ready to listen to bigger ideas now.?

?The problem with Superman Returns was like releasing Star Wars in ?77, The Empire Strikes Back in ?80 and then waiting 28 years to release Return of the Jedi, it wasn?t relevant. I understand what Bryan Singer was trying to do, to pay homage to Richard Donner?s original vision, but I think you should pay homage by doing something completely different.?

?I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."

Certainly no-one can ever say that Millar lacks vision and if he and his ?bigHollywoodaction director? friend get backing for the project, and we certainly hope they do, it might just prove to be the Godfather of superhero films.

No no no no no no no! Singer's more of a let down than it was a great film, but when will Hollywood learn? You don't reboot a franchise in such a short span, and an a trilogy based on a Superman-less era? No no no no no no no! One film? Sure, but three? Ugh.

Sadly its the quickest way for Hollywood to say we don't like this movie and we want to see it differently.

    • This is weird. Mythos is more unrestricted compared to Fable. Technically it poses more risk!!
    • This is a great thing, I always have issues with Verizon while inside of certain football stadiums due to the saturation and walls blocking signal so a LOS way to connect would be great. Verizon was supposed to be offering sat data this year but I've not heard a word of it lately. Dude is sending rockets into space in a cheap manner, low waste foot print and has a great product with solar/battery tech. We would be so far behind China right now if not for him and a push to get back into space.
    • illegally? Proof of that? Seems you are posting misinformation or well a pure straight up lie cause there is zero proof of such a thing. But I get it...
