+Mystic MVC Posted August 14, 2008 MVC Share Posted August 14, 2008 I should have some performance results by Friday I hope guys because my ram should be in. I really want to rip through that fluid demo with my GTX 280. :: Lyon ::
Is there a list what games are Phsyx enabled/supported? Would love to try this on my old/current games to see the performance difference (it is meant for boosting performance, right?) Is this for the alien blob type thing? I have the same problem. ---------------------------------------------------------- Just ran the tests, and I'm quite impressed by the power of CUDA. I knew that Nvidia were promoting it as powerful, but I never really bought into the media hype, but independently calculating 61000 objects is pretty impressive. I'm curious to know though if this will impact on graphics performance. slippery
Im just a tad perplexed - I have a 8800 GTS (640mb) GPU and cannot get it to run after installing the new whql drivers. joker999
i tried a small program called phyX fluidmark it does some benchmarking for phyXphyX thro CPU (software mode )got about ~1286 point about 22 fps on average <sinp> phyX thro gpu got about ~5300 point much smoother 89 fps average some major improvment over cpu mode :D <sinp> edit : waired the screenshot doesn't show up avg: 104fps avg: 22fps :) btw i use 177.89 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/656962-nvidia-physx-performance-new-drivers/page/2/#findComment-589652502 Share on other sites

I'm curious to know though if this will impact on graphics performance. To be fair, it's not really CUDA but more of the fact that the GPU architechture is much more suited to physics calculations. Not only are the Stream Proccessors designed with parrallelism in mind, but there are alot of them. (128 in a 8800GTS 512 for example.) I'm sure a Intel/AMD <Insertfurturebrandname> 128-core CPU could handle this quite well too. Sethos
Yeah, Vista is definitely draining power! Here's my results at 1280x1024 with an 8800 Ultra; I'm switching back to XP tomorrow! CrashG
Fairly decent results. I did do the test at the native resolution of my monitor (it's also what I game at too). Here's the wife's results: (also at the monitors native resolution) Yeah, Vista is definitely draining power! Here's my results at 1280x1024 with an 8800 Ultra; I'm switching back to XP tomorrow! Sorry to say, it's not Vista. :p Edited August 15, 2008 by CrashGordon Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/656962-nvidia-physx-performance-new-drivers/page/2/#findComment-589652994 Share on other sites
Sethos
Sorry to say, it's not Vista. :p No? Then tell me why my results just shot up under XP ;) ? Could also be because I used some older drivers under Vista? But my FPS did increase across the board under XP. CrashG
No? Then tell me why my results just shot up under XP ;) ?Could also be me using a slightly older driver? But my FPS did increase across the board under XP. Well I just noticed joker999's GT scored about 10+ FPS faster than the wife's' GT, but anything over 25-30 FPS what's the difference? Except for the e-peen factor. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/656962-nvidia-physx-performance-new-drivers/page/2/#findComment-589653762 Share on other sites
Sethos
Well, I paid for an 8800 Ultra and getting lower performance numbers than 'slower' cards. I know the 8800 Ultra is not much faster than most of these cards, but shouldn't be scoring lower. I just want my expensive hardware to perform its best, not having some eyecandy OS think it can hog all the power :p So no E-peen factor, just want my moneys worth. +Majesticmerc MVC Posted August 15, 2008 MVC Share Posted August 15, 2008 who can be so sure you got 9 series not 8 series ;) It's still a G92 core, so it's basically an 8-series. CrashG
No, your upgrade path was just a little off. :p I'm just joking with you, it's amazing what a few months can do (lower prices/better products). I paid around $300 for my GTS back in Feb. If I could've only held off a few more weeks, but that's the way it goes, if you wait, you'll always be waiting. I don't miss the few extra FPS I had under XP, I never even notice a difference (except in benchmarks), same goes for the OC'd CPU. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/656962-nvidia-physx-performance-new-drivers/page/2/#findComment-589653790 Share on other sites
