Websense - Linux clients not getting filtered

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, we have Websense Enterprise running on a windows 2003 box. While it's working fine with our windows clients and the quota system is working well, but we have several linux workstations which are not being filtered at all. I can't find much info on linux on their site, where should I start with this?

thanks

Are the linux boxes logging into your windows network? What type of integration do you have with websense? ISA, PIX..

Are you filtering on username and groups, or by IP ranges?

Really need some details if you expect anyone to be able to help you.

Sorry for the massivley delayed reply, completely forgot about this thread

Basically we have some linux machines (not on the domain), and our quota system is based on windows user accounts. We can't apply a quota to the whole IP range there as there are a fair few users with increased quotas/etc that would be affected as the IP based one overrules the user based quota doesn't it? Is there any way around that? The way I see it we have 3 options:

1 Apply a quota to the whole DHCP range in use (instead of the user-based system in use now), although this would overrule any increased quota users have?, and would also mean they have a separate quota for each machine they use

2 Put all linux users that don't have an increased quota either onto a static IP, or onto their own VLAN (also means a separate quota for each machine)

3 Get all linux machines to authenticate (and log on to) to the domain.

2 and 3 would both be extremely time consuming, and the config changes involved in 3 might interfere with the way software is already set up on their machines.

Are there any other options?

Many thanks
