VW are lending me a new Scirocco!

Recommended Posts

Only for a week but still! I just had to come in and burst out the good news on this as i'm so excited.

I'm going to a big birthday event for the Corrado in Germany next month - there are going to be 450+ Corrado's going from all over Europe. Was definately going to go but was in two minds about taking my Corrado as it's done a lot of miles and could do with some work doing before I subject it to like 1,300 miles in less than a week and I don't have the money right now what with the cost of the trip as well.

I write for our car clubs magazine / newsletter (i'm the editor actually) and thought how cool it'd be to take a new Scirocco to the meet and to the subsequent visit to the Karmann factory where the original Scirocco and Corrado were built - so I penned VW's press office a letter floating the idea to them, honestly expecting never to hear anything again.

Last week I took a call out of the blue saying, in short, that they loved the idea and would be delighted to give me a new Scirocco to take to Germany for a week! They only go on sale in the UK on the 29th of August and they're delivering my press car on the 4th of September so it'll still be a new sight on the roads!

I know some guys in here are into their dubs so i'll be sure to grab you guys a few shots when I get it and try and get some pics of both my old Corrado and the new Scirocco :)

I will be getting a whole bunch of pictures - don't worry! Will be a bit of a delay in getting them though - VW are delivering the car on September 4th in the morning - my friend arrives mid morning in time to go and bag some snaps and get stocked up for the trip to Germany, then i'm up at some ungodly hour the following morning to head down to Dover for the ferry! So pictures probably won't show till I get back the following week - but I promise i'll get a bunch!

I've no idea what spec it'll be, what colour, etc so it's all up in the air - I just know there will be a new Scirocco being delivered. I think they're only selling the 2.0TFSI in the UK initially so I can guess which ENGINE it will have at least.

Seen one in a Volkswagen Showroom as a 'Preview', love the front & inside of the Car but I just can't say I like the back! It just looks like VW have spent a lot of quality time on the front/middle & interior and then rushed the end! :p

Anyways great news Chicane, enjoy it! Take lots of piccy's!

Press pack for the car came from VW today. I'd secretly hoped it'd be a well specced example being a press car and i'm glad to say it is. Aside from the standard spec for the car (which is very good IMHO!) it has the following options:

* Panoramic roof

* Winter pack

* Heated leather

* DVD touch screen sat nav with 30GB HDD for storing music / video

* Parking sensors

Additionally has the colour for the car which is called 'Rising Blue' - really pleased about this as some of my favourite shots of the new Scirocco have been of blue ones. Doesn't seem that it comes with DSG (despite being otherwise generously equipped) - shame but beggars can't be choosers!

Gets delivered on Thursday - I have a feeling I won't want to give it back! :(

* Heated leather

(

Droooool ! I normal askew most options as unnecessary weight and unneeded creature comforts. For example parking sensors? I thought that was my eyeballs. This one though is the exception.

Keep the updates coming.

Quite. Never been a fan of the garnish that manufacturers stick on cars to earn some extra money as some of them are so darn expensive, especially when you consider that most of the stuff needed to drive them (i.e. the wiring looms, data in the ECU) are already there. Not sure if we'll actually NEED heated leather in early September but still..

Came home from my girlfriends early (8am) and the driver was already here with the car! Took him back to the bus station and had a brief drive (in traffic) and it seems really nice. The drive by wire system is more 'jerky' than I expected but it'll take me some getting used to. Performance is stunning - dabbed my foot briefly on a quiet bit of road and had to back off quite quickly.. it's surprisingly fast.

Pic of the new Scirocco with my trusty old Corrado - hope she's not feeling too left out :)

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard

Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
