Archos Generation 6

I like them! I'm a 605 owner. I want the new Archos 5, but money is an issue.

Finally! I too am a 605 owner, got mine for $120, and being a college student, money is always an issue for me lol. Having said that, even if I did have the money for this, I probably wouldn't get it. It's pretty much a redesigned 605 with a slightly different interface. Yeah, I changed my mind about it from the OP, but that's when I learned more about the device.

@suicide_pact - no problem. I think it's a great PMP and a great alternative to the iPod Touch.

looks like an Archos brick :p

ah come on, man, take a look at the pictures in this thread. The archos is only slightly bigger than the iTouch/iphone. The screen is very nice though, love the 800x480 resolution, comes in handy for browsing.

That's because it is a GPS unit - or at least there are GPS options. Comparing these to iPods is like comparing Oranges and Lemons. The Archos is a kick-ass top of the range do it all PMP - while the iPod (and iPhone) isn't.

The Archos system is what iPhone/iPod owners drool and fantasise that their system could be - but the reality is Archos have always been two or more years ahead of the game than Apple. (In terms of features at least).

The only place Apple beats Archos is in terms of design and the OS. But that's Apple all over, lot's of image, lots of gloss, pretty to the point of being superficial - and a bit thin on actual functionality.

Having said that I currently own an iPod - so you can't get away with shouting me and the fanboys here have no cause to wet their pants. I've owned every Archos PMP over this last 6 years and am a huge fan - but as I said it's like comparing oranges and lemons. I don't currently have a use for a PMP. But I do want a small lightweight music player with capacious storage capacity that I can easily fit in a shirt pocket while jogging and working out. The Archos doesn't fit that bill - as it is both too large and too heavy to carry around casually in this way. So I went for an iPod Classic with 160GB hard drive. I'm already having to contend with the lack of features when compared to my Archos devices, but I knew already having owned iPods in the past that this is a compromise I might have to make.

Saying the Archos is compatible to a PSP is even more of a joke that doesn't deserve comment. I have owned PSP's too - and apart from playing games (which to be fair is their primary purpose), everything else they do is weak.
