  1. 1. Who should lead on Destiny?

it's only going to be 1 episode IMO. This show has so far showed an unwillingness to do a multi-episode story arc. a side note..why the continued spoiler tags? people are talking about an episode that's already happened and doing personal speculation on what may happen in the next ones. I see no reason for spoiler tags.

As a member of staff I tend to be more careful about following the rules/protocols than normal members.

Wow! We're in for some awesome episodes: http://stargate.mgm.com/view/series/3/index.html (season 1.5 preview)

Just a bit of warning: It's a little spoilerish.

looks like the luciens are back? the guys who attacked Icarus

I don't know if this has been posted earlier in the thread (like, 10 days ago or anything) but just in case some big news for SGU (and Caprica etc) fans:

Syfy Channel will move its Friday night dramas to Tuesdays starting in October, the network announced this week.

Stargate Universe, Sanctuary and Caprica will air on Tuesday nights, where the network has had great success in the summer months with Eureka and Warehouse 13, its two highest rated original series. SGU and Sanctuary air in the fall months, Caprica in the winter. SGU then returns for the second half of its season during the spring.

The reason? Syfy has picked up ? wait for it ? WWE Friday Night SmackDown, one of the many professional wrestling shows that seem to draw big viewership for cable networks, particularly among the coveted young male demographics.

That series will debut October 1 at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, and run two hours in length. Rather than pairing Stargate and its other scripted dramas with wrestling, Syfy is opting to maintain SmackDown?s Friday night presence and give its dramas ? which have seen sliding ratings on Friday nights for several years ? a try on another night of the week.

SmackDown is a veteran 10-year-old series that has been airing on Friday nights since 2005. It comes to Syfy from the MyNetworkTV syndication group, having originally aired on UPN and then The CW. The series launched in 1999 and averages more than 3.4 million viewers each week.

Stargate Universe, the current Friday night leader for Syfy during the fall, draws about half that.

?With Tuesday night, a proven winner for our original drama series including Warehouse 13, there is bigger opportunity for series such as Stargate Universe, Sanctuary and Caprica to thrive on a night with a significantly larger number of viewers available to watch live,? Syfy president Dave Howe said.

The move to Tuesdays makes a premiere of either September 28 or October 5 likely. The latter would follow Syfy?s pattern of starting off the quarter with new series; but it would also cede a bigger jump on the new fall season to the broadcast networks.

I know I posted about Smackdown going to SyFy on Fridays in the WWE thread, but I didn't see the SGU/etc news added on until now for some reason.

What do you guys think about SGU and Eureka and Caprica finally moving off Friday nights to Tuesday nights?

What I think is going to happen is:

the four of them will use the gates to try and leapfrog ahead of the Destiny. This would allow them to reunite once the Destiny makes a stop on a planet with a gate.

That could happen in one episode or it could be a mutli-episode arc with a plethora of problems in between.

Ahhh good idea, I hadn't thought of it like that. I thought Rush would unlock the ships systems with the code 46 (or something). And somehow steer the ship back to them.

couldnt they just wait till destiny drops out of FTL and dial it?

they seem to have been able to use the stargates without a problem, just not control the ftl drive

Depends on how far the ship is away. Doesn't Destiny jump from galaxy to galaxy? In which case, there is no chance a normal gate could dial it. It would need lots of power. Like the planet where the Icarus Project was based.

Just caught up with the episodes. 4 episodes straight cant be good for ya >.<

Loving it though. Stories dont really seem to carry across more than 2 episodes but there is still the basic young vs rush plot that i love.

If i have learnt anything. Don't mess with the military. :p

i assumed it was system to system traversing the galaxys, though the show hasnt really had a timescale from jump to jump that i can remember

"Sabotage"

An expert in hyper drives, who has a past with Dr. Rush, arrives on the Destiny via the communication stones when it seems the ship will run out of power before it reaches its next destination, which would leave the crew adrift.

Cmon McKay. He needs a cameo in this new series. Guy is awesome.

Love Dr. McKay and he needs to be back for more then just a cameo role. No offense to you Universe fans but I've tried watching the show a couple times and the drama is just too much and ridiculous.

Plot spoiler for next episode possibly.

Didn't we see this situation before hand near the beginning of the season...?

Takes time to sink in, I love the series. While it is slower it does have a higher believability I'd say. I'd love McKay to be on more often but the only way he'd be on is through the stones which limits it to cameos.

Thanks Steve I'll give her a couple more goes.

Dr. McKay is awesome (and only partially because the character is Canadian).

I loved seeing the Canadian flag on his uniform.

Anyway, the upcoming episodes look like they're going to be good.

Return of the semi-transparent blue-skinned aliens, the Lucian Alliance, a potential take-over of Destiny, and more.

starting to get a little less painful to watch but still has some yuk moments. Like the women crying on her bed alone...wth was that about?

already forgot. who and was it this past episode? more than likely they are crying over a loved one they don't think they'll see again. Not that much of a stretch to envision.

Plot spoiler for next episode possibly.

Sorta, but this seems to hint that they aren't even in a solar system. Whereas the first time they were, thus gravity played a factor.

Thanks Steve I'll give her a couple more goes.

Gets really good come Episode 8-12. 10 and 11 were fantastic..

Likewise, and all the canadian jokes they made too

That actually stretches all the way back to the premiere. She seemed to have a fling with Soulja Boy (Lt. Scott) then he ditched her for Chloe. In that ep she had expressed feelings for the other guy and he didn't share them. Basically she was just lonely, which is understandable stranded on the other end of the universe. Thankfully it was just part of a montage, I couldn't handle a ep of only human emotion

    • We now know when and how the Universe may truly end by Sayan Sen Image by Marek Pavlík via Pexels| Not representative A study by physicist Henry Tye of Cornell University suggests that the universe may not expand forever. Instead, it could eventually stop expanding, begin contracting and end in a "Big Crunch" roughly 20 billion years from now. The research, published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, was conducted by Tye, Horace White Professor of Physics Emeritus at Cornell University. Using recent observations from major dark-energy surveys, Tye and his collaborators developed a cosmological model that predicts the universe could have a total lifespan of about 33 billion years. Since the universe is currently estimated to be 13.8 billion years old, the model places it near the midpoint of its existence. According to Cornell University's summary of the research, the study centers on the cosmological constant, a term introduced by Albert Einstein in his theory of general relativity. In modern cosmology, the cosmological constant is commonly used to describe the simplest form of dark energy, the unknown phenomenon believed to be driving the accelerating expansion of the universe. "For the last 20 years, people believed that the cosmological constant is positive, and the universe will expand forever," Tye said in a Cornell University news release. "The new data seem to indicate that the cosmological constant is negative, and that the universe will end in a big crunch." The study draws on data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), two major projects designed to investigate the nature of dark energy. According to Tye, recent observations suggest that dark energy may not behave exactly like a simple cosmological constant. To account for those observations, Tye and his collaborators proposed a model involving an extremely light hypothetical particle that evolves over time. In their calculations, this produces a negative cosmological constant and leads to a future collapse of the universe. The model predicts that cosmic expansion would continue for approximately another 11 billion years before reaching a maximum size, after which the universe would begin contracting and eventually collapse. Scientists have long debated how the universe might end. As explained in an article published in The Conversation by Stephen DiKerby of Michigan State University, several possibilities have been proposed. If dark energy remains constant and positive, the universe could continue expanding indefinitely, gradually becoming colder, darker and more diffuse in a scenario often called the "heat death" of the universe. Other theoretical possibilities include a Big Rip, in which cosmic expansion accelerates so dramatically that galaxies, stars and even atoms are torn apart, or a Big Crunch, in which expansion reverses and the universe collapses back into an extremely dense state. DiKerby notes that the Big Crunch idea itself is not new. What distinguishes Tye's work is that it attempts to use current observational data to estimate when such a collapse might occur and how it could unfold. Much of the universe's long-term evolution remains uncertain. According to current astrophysical understanding, stars will continue to form and die for billions of years. The Sun, for example, is about halfway through its expected lifespan. Galaxies are also expected to continue merging; the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are projected to collide several billion years from now. At the same time, the nature of dark energy remains one of the biggest unanswered questions in cosmology. While observations indicate that the universe's expansion is accelerating, scientists still do not know what is causing that acceleration. Future observations may therefore alter current predictions about the cosmos's ultimate fate. Tye emphasized that additional evidence will be needed before firm conclusions can be drawn. DESI continues to collect data, while upcoming observations from missions and observatories including Euclid, SPHEREx and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory are expected to provide more precise measurements of dark energy. "People have said before that if the cosmological constant is negative, then the universe will collapse eventually. That's not new," Tye said. "However, here the model tells you when the universe collapses and how it collapses." For now, the study presents one possible future for the cosmos rather than a settled prediction. Whether the universe ultimately ends in a Big Crunch, expands forever, or follows another path entirely remains an open question that future observations will help answer. • I bought this game. Played it for an hour, and then got a refund from Steam. Not a fun game at all.
