House - Season Five

So how important was he to the show...

well for a long period after they showed him dead, I couldn't remember who he was and how he looked. I barely remembered the episode at the end of last episode with taub taking the credit thing. But not untill they actually showed how he looked did I completely remember how he looked. in the show in total he was completely unremarkable and un-noteworthy. Even though I think the show would have been better off with him there and Taub gone. At lest Taub has left a bigger mark on the show.

Good episode still though, even if they insisted on making the whole thing desaturated.

Those of you saying Taub should go are wrong. The character is interesting because he's so flawed. The character of Kutner, up until he died, was just a happy go lucky kid and, while adding a humorous break from the eb and flow of the drama, didn't really have my depth to him.

Taub doesn't matter. He's boring. He cheated before, I get it, but the only "flawed" character that really matters that much is House. All of the characters have something unique about them, but Taub was the least fun to watch.

'House': The Truth Behind the Shocking Surprise

Warning: This entire post is a discussion of this week's "House." If you care about what happens on "House," but not enough to have watched last night's episode, do not read on. For everyone else, here's some much-needed explanation about what happened ? and why ? from cast member Kal Penn and executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs.

As you've probably heard by now, Kutner killed himself because Penn got offered a job at the White House and has chosen to put acting on hold for a bit to take the gig. We're totally serious. Obviously, this is all a huge surprise, so Kal and the two EPs got on a media call today to help us all understand it a little better. We still think it was a cheap, sensationalistic stunt that made little sense whatsoever, but that's just our opinion. See what you think...

Were you taken aback at all when they told you they were going to kill you off?

Kal Penn: Obviously, yeah. I mean, you're connected to the character you play, and I loved playing Kutner, so there's a little bit of shock and loss -- more than a little bit of shock and loss -- when I found that out also. So yeah. I was probably as shocked as the audience was when I first found out.

When exactly did you find out Kutner was going to kill himself?

KP: I think I found out when we were shooting episode 17 or maybe halfway through 18, and the first thing I asked David Shore was 'Do you want me to change anything? Do you want this to be informed that he's struggling with something?' And the answer was you know -- not really. This is something that comes out of left field in episode 20, and we don't want to lead anyone on and we don't want to mislead anyone, it just is what it is and there's no explanation for it.

Were those your legs [when Foreman and Thirteen found Kutner]?

KP: They were, yeah.

They should have found a better way to take him of the show the suicide didn't catch with kutner character. That was lame.

You obviously missed the point of the episode. It was done to show that suicide happends suddenly, without warning, without signs and often to people you dont suspect.

If they wanted to, in the previous few episodes they could of shown you signs or given you a reason for it when you look back.. They chose to go for a shock suicide, which in my opinion makes it so much better.

I disagree. All I could think was "wow, he must have left the show in a hurry"

First I was like WTF? Then I figured like all other shows he needed to leave. But I think this will be a good plot to be played out for the remainder of the season. I mean sucided isn't expected and often comes randomly and to House this goes against everything be belives in. To me it seems like it will shake the foundation of House himself. Can't wait to see how it's played out.

Gotta say I did go back and watch the previous House episodes to see if there were any signs and there weren't. It is kinda of lame hes gone, but it's going to hopefully play out well.

I wonder what House realized at the end when he viewed that picture of Kutner with the sad face...

If he was thinking I didn't notice it, or if he realized it was impossible to know

I hope it's that he realized something's are beyond his ability to recognize or identify... would add a new dimension to his character, maybe doubt?

Suicide was a good approach to throw things off. Catching the other characters off guard, and the audience. It felt like House pounced on Kutner's parents because he went through a suicidal phase or something near that and blames them. Would make sense with his father issues

Kutner was the most joyful and helpful of those characters, if was taub or foreman the suicide then it would make sense. Also he was the one playing jokes and confronting house.

Anyway, they should get rid of these three people and found new ones to play with. Foreman is nothing without their familiar drama and house racist jokes, 13 has become boring when their secret was revealed and she stopped to sleep with girls, and taub doesn't add much.

Bring bosley back, the black religious man and the twins from the selection, then we will have some good episodes.

I did. It was nothing but clever marketing by fox to get more hits to their website. On the day the show aired, top 10 google searches were overwhelmingly dominated by House related queries, so undoubtedly a lot of people would have landed up on fox looking for more info.

if no one knew about the fact that kal penn had a new job, they would have just had such an amazing shock.

i think house realises right at the end that he wont be able to solve it, no matter how he tries, there is no logical explanation, and it does well to highlight that the most seemingly successful and happy people (remember 13's comment when they go into his house, that it was his "heaven") can suddenly kill themselves with no one knowing. i think it was an amazing shock tactic, but i do admit i was looking for a reason, i felt we need a reason... maybe in later episodes? season finale maybe lol?

also, it was very emotive at the end when taub just breaks down on the sofa, and the couple die... sad times. excellent script.

Poorly executed IMO. Didn't like this episode very much. I really miss the days when the medicine was just as important as House's interactions with his team. This show seems to be heading towards soup opera material IMO.

And it looks like we're going to be rehashing a little bit next week with Cameron being in love with House.

hmmmmmmm Cuddy + Cameron + house = R rated episode :p

Edit: Just read more about the upcoming episodes... And guessing by the next episode titles /me hopes House has to decide between Cameron and Cuddy, plus somewhere in between that he has cameron dancing ala stripper sorta lika cuddy in the last season.

Seriously though, kutner was the best of the new cast, I hope if they get someone better than him and not just a caracter filler.

In one of the interviews, they said they arnt replacing Kutner (at least in this season). They also said they didnt do it so they could get the old cast back into the team, although, you will see abit more of the old cast now as kutners suicide puts a strain on everyone.

    • How old is this tip? Seems 15-20 years old? Processor states for the CPU under Windows power options has been a thing for a long, long time. It certainly isn't new or hidden... Also, with laptops it doesn't make any difference what OS you are running, all of them are configured for battery longevity over performance, for obvious reasons.
    • I can't believe Starmer is still there...his party lost so big. He's a stubborn coot, but this is largely unenforceable, so I would imagine he'll be resigning soon. A key here is for parents to buy their kids phones sans Internet access--and set up the Internet at home, where mom and day can, you know, act like parents instead expecting the government to raise their kids.
    • EA launches in-game advertising platform for brands to "connect with audiences" by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The gaming giant Electronic Arts is exploring more ways to inject real-life brands into its games. Announced today as EA Advertising, the new platform is attempting to make it easier for brands to reach out for deals with the company and put their products inside titles like EA Sports FC, Madden, NHL, Skate, or The Sims. EA revealed that its EA Sports side of the company brings in "hundreds of millions of players across console, PC, and mobile" every year. Fan engagement of these titles was also touted as being "extraordinary," with 23,000 NFL seasons worth of games being played in Madden NFL daily, while EA Sports FC sees over a billion matches a day. “Players come to EA’s games and live experiences every day to play, watch, create and connect,” said David Tinson, Chief Experiences Officer at Electronic Arts. “That gives brands a meaningful opportunity to show up in ways that add value and respect the player experience, while maintaining authenticity in the worlds our teams are building. With EA Advertising, we’re helping brands become part of those moments in ways that are relevant and built for players.” Using the new program EA Advertising, brands will be able to inject their products into games in real-time via dynamic placement. EA says partners will have access to everything from stadium signage in sports games and targeted adverts to in-game content custom-made for the brands. These are described as additions designed to "enhance, not disrupt" experiences. "In these interactive gameplay environments, brands become part of the game itself, reflecting how players engage with advertising in real-world contexts," adds the company "Brands can activate across live environments, tailoring placements to meet campaign objectives, and update campaigns with ongoing optimization informed by aggregated engagement insights." Current real-world brand partnerships EA has built into its games include Visa (EA Sports FC and College Football), Lowe's (EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and College Football), Red Bull (EA SPORTS FC), Xfinity and Peacock (EA SPORTS FC), and Mountain Dew’s (College Football).

    • UK to ban under-16s from social media following a six-week trial with teenagers by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels A few months ago, Neowin reported that the UK was trialing a social media ban with 300 teenagers for six weeks, that testing has come to an end, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the country will ban under-16s from social media. Starmer said that this technology is making children unhappy and making it easier for bullies to harass and abuse them. He continued to talk about the addictive nature of social media, saying that it uses an infinite scroll designed to lock users in for hours. He said this interferes with children doing their homework, reading, playing with friends outside, and going to bed on time. Tackling the idea that nothing can be done about social media, Starmer said: The government’s action won’t stop at social media either, the PM said. It plans to take action on gaming services and livestreaming platforms. Right now, he said, strangers can contact any child unchecked. He said this wouldn’t happen in real life, and the government is going to stop it from happening online, too. The Labour government has overseen the introduction of the Online Safety Act, a big change to the internet which includes age verification on adult websites. This has led to a fair bit of backlash, but overall, the government is pushing ahead with these changes.
