IGN: The Last Guy Review

Recommended Posts

US, August 27, 2008 - I was destined to love The Last Guy. Beyond the fact that the game is a blast, beyond the fact that the gameplay is simple but complex, and beyond the fact that the music is that wacky kind of catchy -- the main character wears a red cape and blue suit.

What's not to love?

The word "quirky" gives you and idea of what to expect with The Last Guy, but it doesn't adequately prepare you for the craziness found in this PlayStation Network download. Basically, a purple ray has hit Earth and turned a healthy number of the inhabitants into zombies. These monsters now roam the world's streets and gobble up any human foolish enough to leave his or her hideout.

This is where you -- the last guy -- come in.

After playing the demo a few days ago I think this game resembles PacMan, but less fun.

The graphics are good, the music is cool, but there's really nothing that makes me wanna save another 700 people or so after a few rounds. It just became boring. Maybe if instead of monsters(?) they had REAL Zombies, that you could hit and kill, things would be better, but still, I just lost interest after a while.

I actually will be buying this as soon as I get home tomorrow, I personally loved the quirkiness of the game, and I think quirky is the best way to describe it.

With that said, I can definitely see how this would not be everyones cup of tea.

So anyone else pick this up yesterday?

I did, and I have to say it is already getting pretty damn hard, and I am only on the 3rd stage.

I seriously cannot imagine me every having the patience of getting every single person within a level either, just seems like it is going to take so much damn time to figure out the best route.

But seriously, I have not gotten past Washington yet, it is not the insects, but the damn walking zombies that make it so damn hard. LOL

I do really like it though overall, feel it is a great PSN game.

i got it but have only played the first level so far. has anyone managed to break the artifact (that requires a line of 1000 people) on the first level? if so do you get anything special like a vip, i kept trying to do it but every time i got a line close to 1k the damn zombies broke it up

Nope, was not able to do that one yet, but I am almost positive a VIP is going to be there.

anyone know how to get into the small courtyards on stage 3-1 ?stermalm?

I just got there late last night, when I play it sometime today I will post back if I figure it out.

I bought it tonight on impulse

It's actually better then I thought it'd be and there is some strategy involved, the use of Google Map images for the levels is genius :D

It's scary how much of my time spent console gaming these days is via PSN or Xbox Live :|

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
