The new 667 DIMMS will run at 533. But you REALLY shouldnt mix and match RAM. I've seen peoples motherboards die from doing that.

o_0 This I have yet to see, are you sure something else wasn't the cause?

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc

you can mix and match memory as much as you like, mate, as the mix will run at the speed of the slowest of the memory modules in the mix.

However, if you want a Dual Channel configuration, then you should definitely try and stick two of the same type (brand, model etc), although its more a matter of internal characteristics of the memory to be paired.

I am, for example, runnin in Dual Channel config with different memory modules (they also have different speeds, but they are manually set to run all at the same for the sake of the Dual Channel).

Hope this helps,

N

edit: motherboards dont die for that. the worse that can happen is that you will have to clear the CMOS if the machine doesnt POST anymore.

& for non-dual channel configuration there's no manually set indeed ?

for non-dual channel you generally go with the settings the system detects via SPD. Or you can manually change the timings if you want to optimize them, though different memory modules together can bring instability to the system sometimes.
