Check This RiG for me

Recommended Posts

I am just asking for some of you to check this to see if I am missing anything that I will need to get it up and running. I already have software and the OS so there is no need to suggest that. I just need to know if any of you have had bad experiences with the items on that wishlist or if you know right now an item wont work for vista 64. Here is the link to a test rig I want to order soon.

What's your budget?

What's the computer being used for?

Are you overclocking?

Budget is around 1800, used only for gaming, might consider overclocking but not if I have to use a water cooler.

The reason I had to set the rig up a certain way is that the MMO I play only truely supports Nvidia GPUs, all ATI cards have serious issues with missing graphics and such. The game will mostly be used just for that one MMO with the possibility of playing a few others that come out at a later time. MMO is City of Heroes/Villains.

Anything wrong with going with an Intel setup? They perform better and are priced pretty competitively..plus considering your budget, it's not like it's a huge hit to your budget.

My suggestion is to go with a P45 board with an E8400/E8500. Swap the power supply for something like the TX750

My suggestion is to go with a P45 board with an E8400/E8500. Swap the power supply for something like the TX750, doesn't have modular cables, so is that something you NEED? It should be around 90AR at buy.com. Hard drive, I'd go with a WD6400AAKS because it's cheap (80 at mwave) and performs very well..better than what you have. With cooling, I'd go with a Xigmatek S1283 + bolt through kit, they've perform better than Zalman's offerings and cheaper. If you do go with it, you can lose the AS5. You can definitely get the RAM cheaper.

Nothing really wrong with Intel, its just I like to go with the underdog this time when it comes to this rig. I know intel is faster at the moment on the proccessor but I really want this rig to be AMD based. As for as the gpu goes the only reason I went with an Nvidia gpu was due to it being more compatible with the MMO.

Okay, well then you can ignore the bit about the P45 and the Wolfdales. The other stuff still stands, TPQ's aren't bad but they're somewhat pricey..and your system doesn't need the power anyway.

Speaking of underdog, are you buying completely from newegg? You should check prices on mwave.com, zipzoomfly.com, and buy.com (PSU and processor here). They can be priced better.

I'd also lean towards a Samsung 245BW or BenQ G2400WD for the monitor, they're both 100 dollars or so more..so it'll depend on how your build comes out and whether you want to spend the money.

Sorry but if you want to go AMD you need to wait the 45nm Deneb Core.

140W for getting slightly slower performance than an cheaper Intel 95W CPU totally fail my recommendation, now if you want to go on this CPU and pay more now to buy it then more in electricity, it's your call. I just hope you don't do this just because of the name on the box because then you screw yourself.

I also don't understands the ATi "missing" graphics... Explain me that, it's the first time I see this.

Note, this mobo have two Revisions, and the Rev 1.0 seems to not support this CPU

Be sure to check with Newegg for getting the Rev 2.0

Due to issues with the way the game handles the drivers for ATI, areas of the game will have missing graphics or just huge black spots with holes in the ground and such. Its only an issue with this game but since that is the majority of what this rig will be used for I would rather go with what is more compatible.

Interesting... Still, I want some links please. Since this seems, at your words, a widespread problem for a game, it must have been talked somewhere.

Here is 1

And Here is the other

Basically on that forum we get someone with at least one ATI issue ever other week. Its to the point where we tell folks not to buy ATI cards if you are going to play the game. Its more trouble than its worth to tweak the card and find the right drivers that work great. There are some folks who can play with ATI cards but you have to turn off some of the features in the video settings in the game just to get it to run halfway decent. To me that is a waste to buy a card that cant even take advantage of the features you paid for. I would have to say its more so the developers fault and not really ATI's. They are very sloppy with their code and take forever and a day to fix bugs sometimes. I would even go as far as to say that they are getting bribed by Nvidia to make the gpu more compatible with the game because they got Nvidia logos all over the place. The only issues we have with the Nvidia stuff is when folks by those systems with onboard video and its like a 6100 LE video solution and they expect the game to run, and then they turn around and blame vista.
