And WTF does that have to do with your violation of the EULA? Just because you paid $250 does not mean you can legally use it how ever you want.

BudMan, I think you're probably right, and certainly I do not ever want to encourage illegal use of software to others. But there's no need to get so worked up about this. Fair enough?

Who is worked up? Just stating FACTs dude. You are clearly in violation, and you clearly are promoting others to do so as well.

"You can slap down $250 for a year long Technet Plus Subscription and use Server 08 as your primary OS."

" you can't beat it!!"

As to me being "probably" right? I would highly suggest you read the EULA, which seems clear you have not -- there is no probably about it.

Fair Enough ;)

You're yelling at me from this forum for something that has absolutely zero effect on you whatsoever. That's all I was talking about. I'm sorry if my actions have really made you upset and mad. And you can say whatever you want, but to keep up like this just isn't good.

And in doing so they would be in violation of the Technet EULA the whole time.

You can not legally do what your suggesting. So what your suggesting to people is theft, might as well just suggest they warez it.

The EULA and the FAQ clearly state

"Keep in mind that you may use the evaluation software only to evaluate it. You may not use it in a live operating environment,"

I'm sorry but how your using it is in direct violation of the EULA on its use.

edit: And neither is the MSDNAA program..

You're right. It would be a violation of the EULA if he was to use it in a live operating environment. However, it is not correct to describe this behaviour as illegal. It will, however, potentially open himself to the possibility of civil remedies. It is then up to the individual user to determine whether the risk is worth it or not.

The MSDNAA program has different terms which state "non-commercial use". Applications licensed under MSDNAA are obviously for production (academic) use.

As far as I know there are no restrictions on personal use of MSDNAA software as long as you don't use it to generate profit.

Hey guys, i think we need to step back here and chill, i mean come on neowin is a community a nice one at that, the whole point of a community is to help people, have fun and best of all expand.

I think we all need to step back here and eat some cake and chill. The guy came here asking for a little help, sure i presume (Notice how i said presume as i have no real facts but i am sure it's the case) most of the members here on neowin run some pirated stuff or do things which violate the EULA, sure they aint stupid to admit the fact they use it like that but still.

That's like saying as far as you you knew all the music you downloaded from www.freewarezmusic.tld was legal ;)

Like I said -- I could give a rats ass what you do with whatever software and where/how you go it.. But please don't go around promoting that these are legal options to using server software as your workstation with minimal cost or even free if you have access to msdnaa, etc.

Since clearly they are not! So lets get real!! Unless you've got money to burn, or are using it in violation of some eula it makes no financial sense to use a server os as your workstation -- even if it actually made sense to do.

From the average age of the users here on neowin, I highly doubt any real percentage of them will be in the lets drop $600 to 4k on an OS to play games and read email with, since I have money to burn anyway.. Hey they missed out on the "I'm Rich App" so they might as well do this ;)

So more than likely it would be a pretty safe bet (for a very large sum of money) that pretty much anyone that states they are using 2k3 or 2k8 as their workstation more than likely either down right stole it or are in violation of the eula on how they got it.

And since you have so colorfully stated several times, you don't really care either way, perhaps it's best that you stop posting comments about this subject. Clearly, you're not doing anything in violation of any EULA, so just be happy in that. And everyone else will agree to never even suggest that someone else do such a thing. OK?

Sounds good to me! So how many hours/days do you think it will take for billy bob to make some comment that you can legally use technet or msdnaa to get 2k? as your workstation os for free or little money ;)

If they continue to post such nonsense, then I will continue to correct them on it -- fair enough ;)

So as long as he's using it to do some academic work and not using it as a server on a network, he's good to go.
