Do you need System Optimizers? If so which one?

Question

Hello there. I have seen family and friends with different system optimizers. I have never bought one or downloaded a free one. The most common one I see is System Mechanic. Is this really necessary? I also have downloaded crap cleaner because its free. I do like having everything all at once. But I avoid downloading McAfee and Norton products like the plague. They have always slowed down my computer. I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 3 by the way.

If I do need one which one do you guys think is the best? I hope someone can help out with this issue. The forums search brought nothing close to an answer. And the ones that were close to an answer were 3 years old. Thanks again

i'd stay away from those

they typically just add more bloat to your system

just use tools like adaware and spybot search and destroy to remove spyware etc

i know norton tends to bog down systems as well, not sure about mcafee... i've been using nod32 and it's great (Y)

No you don't need them, ccleaner is a good program though, all you need. As long as you defrag once in a while and don't install a crapload of software you are set. Registry cleaners and such don't improve system performance at all.
