For those that still believe IE is the fastest browser, and for proof of why I use MyIE2.

I don't know if I would consider MyIE2 a browser because is completely based in IE. Uses the IE folders, sounds, bookmarks, cookies. It doesn't even have an installer. I don't think that anyone is capable of creating a browser 600kb and that does not depend in IE. It's just like netcaptor.

It uses the IE engine, that is all. The browser was created from scratch.

Opera 7.03, It is smaller, faster, looks nicer and has more features then IE :p

I cant think of one reason people would use IE, it looks like crap, and has no good features, plus it is slow :p

The main reason for me to use only IE shell based browsers is the hebrew language. Hebrew fonts and handling over all is pretty bad. I tried it, but i couldn't stand how ugly hebrew pages were looking like. I tried using Opera for international pages and IE only for hebrew sites, but no thanks. anyway, that's only me. I have to agree that Opera has some great features though.

From C/NET...

In both our official and informal tests, Opera 7 generally loaded HTML pages a mite faster than Netscape and slower than IE. We're not too surprised by this result. For reasons perhaps known only to Microsoft, no third-party browser has been able to catch up with IE's outstanding page-display speed.

Why is IE's page display so fast? Pretty obvious - First, the browser integrated into the OS; or should I say, Internet Explorer IS the OS. Instead of calling it Windows XP, Microsoft might as well named the OS "Internet Explorer XP"... Second, most web pages are coded specifically for IE. Combine these two factors, and walla...

As a web developer/designer, I alternate btwn Moz and IE, but Moz 1.2.1 is my primary browser. I've resigned IE to simple page display testing. Got hooked on Moz from 1.0 and never looked back :)

Mozilla is comin' on strong... I've been playing around with it since the 0.xx builds. I won't be the least bit surprised if it goes mainstream (like IE is today). I was a die-hard netscape fan until the 4.x series, and when AOL took over, I thought it was time to make the switch.

I used to stick to IE all the time, but finally took the dive and ended up with Phoenix as my favourite. It gave me some problems initially, but the latest nightly builds have been wonderful and it works like a charm. Love the speed of browsing and the tabbed interface. The next milestone release should be great :)

Also tried Opera and Mozilla, but they both felt bloated IMHO. I'm sure they were fast and slick in their earlier versions, but the versions I tried were already filled with too many features that I don't need.

Yeah, of course if you want the best speed on XP you get IE6. Its fully integrated in the OS.

If you don't like this switch to Linux and get Phoenix.

Oh wait, you guys are in a Windows oriented forum, so you're complaining about an OS that you can't seem to ever let go of.

I hate defending IE, but here it goes.

IE is prone to more spyware, invisible installs,

Turn off ActiveX, no matter what M$ says it's not your friend. :D

no download management.

Many free ware download managers for I.E. Does not need to be built in, because so many available.

It may be of decent speed - however, Opera can render pages quicker than IE.

Can't say your wrong.

Opera gives you more control over your browser than IE.

I.E. has tons of setting people fail to use, because the control panel is so idiot proof that it's confusing.:D

regardless of how fast hte code is rendered, the quote from cnet says what matters, ie will display your page faster than the other browsers which means htat hte rendering speed doesn't help since your still waiting longer than ie.

ie is the only browser that supports the latest and newest html tags, along with css, it deosn't display pages wrong when you format a stylesheet how you want to, it doesn't ignore the code that every mozilla based browser does.

until i can code a site to display in ie, than open up another browser and see no changes in display i wont change, pheonix has done nothing but made the design process longer since it can't do what ie can and i have to find other ways of coding hte same effect in html.

example, open my website in ie: http://rracing.cjb.net/revo/index.php now open it in mozilla, and see how much it gets messed up.

better be careful, people are going to start bitching about "WC3." :p

it's like going out to buy another toilet if the house you bought already has a toilet installed.

'OH BUT THIS TOILET I BELIEVE IT FLUSHES FASTER!" ...and it has an automatic air freshener releaser after i get done pooping!

    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
