I was wondering what everyones 1st thoughts are with Google Chrome?

http://www.google.com/chrome

I have found it to render pages very slow (especially when viewing a page for the 1st time), and to just be sluggish overall. Of coarse its a beta so perfection is not expected, but performance wise I really was hoping for more.

The layout is really slick and simple which is pretty nice, but on the flip side there are no extensions, and the customization options are far and few between as of yet.

What are your thoughts?

I think my expectations were too high. Its really quick and clean, but I was expecting more. Hopefully there will be more soon. Like the ability to save my passwords. That is key.

Also, a bookmark browser? To get all 15 of my firefox toolbar bookmarks into Chrome I had to drag and drop each one from the "other bookmarks" menu. Most annoying.

But I do love the way it downloads files. And really love the password remembering. Instead of asking you do you want to remember right away, it waits. In case you put in the wrong password. Once you know it works, you can save. The little touches help!

Loads pages incredibly fast for me, just as fast as ff 3.1 (with tracemonkey enabled too) the UI is my favorite thing about it, good to look at minimal and even has some sexy animations. It is a bit unfinished though, you can't even middle click to autoscroll for example, no rss and I can't scroll at all with the touch pad on my laptop.

Definitely has potential though, ui is fast and sexy, renders pages fast, and starts up even faster than IE.

It's slow and pretty feature-less. It's not crashing as much as some other beta 2 browsers... :p

..the not having features is NOT the way to go in my opinion. They left some important stuff out of Android and now this? Seems this whole "clean and simple" concept may be getting out of control.

The slow part I can deal with..it is fast with some sites though; still slow on all the others. Not ready or anywhere close for primetime in my opinion.

The UI is nice, but I also think the UI is nice in IE so this makes no big difference to me.

If Google listens to the feedback, they can build the best browser ever!

1- I like how the UI is made. Very clean specially under Vista. I'm one of those who hate the menu bar. Replacing it with a button for options is a great thing. I'm one of those who can be put-off a program if it doesn't look good.

2- The thing is fast. Faster than any browser I've tried. It also renders ajax smoothly just like Safari. Something Firefox can't do right.

3- It's the first browser to support the scroll-wheel I have in my keyboard.

4- I love having a Task Manager inside the browser.

5- The Mozilla Prism like feature comes in handy for some websites.

Give it some time and it'll be damn good.

I tried it, didn't much care for it, and uninstalled it. And then the not fun started.

First why I didn't like it:

1) Used huge amounts of RAM for rendering complex pages.

2) The interface looks like a cartoon and reminds me too much of the Luna Visual Style.

3) I cannot configure the fonts to prefer my Sans Serif choice over the Serif.

4) Installed and set to run at start up an updater program that did not get uninstalled when I uninstalled Chrome. Similar to the Apple Updater in effect.

5) I made the foolish mistake of allowing Chrome to make itself the default browser. It would not release the file associations for urls or html back to Safari, or give them to IE7.

After uninstalling:

1) I had to do a system restore to restore my original file associations for urls and html, because it wiped out the associations for urls, html, shtml, xml, etc when it uninstalled.

So, I will not be using Google Chrome. I despise programs that will take file associations (which yes I allowed) but then will not restore them if I ask it.

now as for the high Ram usage it is Beta also if you add alot of the task up in the task manger for chromes task manger it well for me would equal what Safri or FF3 uses somtimes

I'm loving it :) It's fast and straight to the point (i.e. simple) which is what you want from a browser  (well I do anyway) and has potential to take over from Firefox as my main browser (I'll still keep Firefox though, just demote it's role :p) I'm looking forward to Google's future progress with this browser :) (Y)

I'm really suprised in what I think of this browser as I usually despise most Google products, because of thier horrible design, but this really isn't very bad at all.

The design of Google Chrome really looks nice on Windows Vista & I love how they have combined it with the Aero glass - they have done this in a unique way, rather than having all the top part covered in glass. I also like the way they have put the Google logo within the glass.

The way new tabs appear, disappear is also very good - I like little effects like that :)

I like some of the ideas they have taken from Mozilla Firefox 3 (e.g. the password remembering feature which waits till the page has loaded & the favourite star in the address bar to save favourites quickly.

The best part of all is the font rendering, it looks similar to Safari's, however, I have to say, I prefer Safari's font rendering above any browser, even this beta of Google Chrome.

Google Chrome has a long way to go, however, this beta release looks very promising. I will be staying with Mozilla Firefox 3 at the moment, however, because I love the way I have customised it with the Glasser extension & various Stylish styles. Also, some of the extensions I use are vital to my browsing experience.

Given time & maybe with the final release of Google Chrome (if I am able to customise the UI & add extensions), I may well be swayed into changing browser :o

LOVING it so far. I mean sure I don't have my stylish extensions or my glasser, but browser looks great out of the box, runs BLAZING fast, and I love the simple little touches..

Google has made sure to pay attention to some of the little details, without giving to much... I am going to continue using it over FF for a while and see how it improves, etc.

Honestly if we could skin it and add extensions like ad-block, gmail notifiers, etc.. I think this could be the #1 browser out there.

I like the UI on Vista - very clean. Renders pages very fast. Love the tab management. I personally am not going to use it, because it's missing some features I like on the more mature browsers, but I will recommend this to friends who are on a dinosaur of a PC (512 Mb of Ram, PIII, etc.). They only use it for basic stuff, and this browser will run a lot quicker than the other browsers on their PCs

I have only two words: EPIC WIN!

Maybe this a good opportunity for Google to integrate their applications, like GMail, Google Maps etc..

I would like to see:

- An activity window similar to that in Safari

- Some add-ons just like Firefox

I am all for stability, but individual processes seem to occupy a heck lot of space: 80 MB for 2 tabs!

    • Oddly, there was a time that UFC games were culturally relevant, largely because of the graphics and gameplay that was different than the norm. But it seems like as the sport grew in popularity, gaming outlets stopped talking about the games.
