Yeah, who the hell needs competition? Would be best if all Windows user were stuck at IE6.

That's not my point. Competition between two browsers is already more than enough. We already have Opera, no? Imagine the web developers has to code for four different browsers. What works in one browser might not work fully in another.

well i read it and found it pretty informative. if you dont care, then just ignore the post rather than making another reply?

Only reason I mentioned it is because he's linked to his blog in every Chrome-related thread and article I've seen on here.

Which is why a little thing called standards compliance is important.

Imagine the web developers has to code for four different browsers. What works in one browser might not work fully in another.

Now imagine the choice of five or six standard compliant browsers versus one or two non-compliant. The user base will naturally want to use the ones that are compliant, forcing the improvement of the other non-compliant ones.

The web developer won't need to code for "four different browsers" if they're all compliant. Competition is the only thing forcing them to improve, because no one wants users to switch from their browser to a "better one".

couple things.

how do i add a home button?

-speed wise i notice a very small difference.

-the ui gives the page more screen space and looks really smooth.

-any web developers on here right click on something and click the "inspect element" button.

so far i find it the greatest feature...i was stunned.

home button is under options > add home button to the tools bar

So, I will not be using Google Chrome. I despise programs that will take file associations (which yes I allowed) but then will not restore them if I ask it.

So you despise a program because its first beta release has bugs?

I don't like bad bugs like that, but I don't despise a program just because its first beta release has bad bugs.

Firefox used to do this (in a pre 1.0 release), and so did Opera, it's a common annoyance which is always fixed (hopefully)

like safari, without the blurry font rendering and is quicker, simpler ui

My thts exactly!! I love the crisp font, spell checker and UI.. status bar is cool and it is faster overall compared to IE7, including the page loading speed. Chrome looks sooooooo cool with Aero!! Can't wait for the full version now..

What's with the crisp font everyone's talking about? It's the default Windows ClearType.

I think my expectations were too high. Its really quick and clean, but I was expecting more. Hopefully there will be more soon. Like the ability to save my passwords. That is key.

...it does save passwords, it uses the same prompt system as firefox 3.

Go to Google.com (so it stores the site name in history), and next time you try visiting it through the address bar just type the letter g, then press TAB and then your keyword. Same goes for Wikipedia and similar sites.

when I type letter w and press TAB, I got only wikipedia.org in the address bar, while the focus changed to some elements in the page. Same goes with typing g and press TAB, google.com shows in the address bar, and the focus changed to something in the page (just like a normal TAB navigation).

Any idea? :x

The search engine presets are win. I love how I can set each engine to a keyword and search for it faster.

For example, if I set Wikipedia to the keyword 'w', all I would have to type in the address bar is 'w Hillary Clinton' and it would take me to Hillary's Wikipedia article.

I just wish I could get a decent favorites list. I'm getting tired of pressing Ctrl+B just to see the list.

It doesnt like my router home page. 192.168.1.1. If I try to log in it just keeps asking for the username and password again. Firefox gets me in first time.

Work fine on me.

Sad, doesn't work on me (AH "keyword" i miss read! now i know)

I do agree that this is a rocking feature...

But you know that you can do that in FF too right?

Right click on a search box input field (e.g. Neowin up there in the right corner) and "Add a keyword for this search". The "Keyword" field then will be this "w" you mention for Wikipedia... It really is a huge usability win.

In other news, some German thread notices that Chrome seems to talk to this IP 74.125.97.22 which belong to Google. Not sure how valid this information is and the method used... Can you guys somehow confirm/deny this? Here is the original post for you German speakers: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/foren/S-74-...d/showthread-1/

I've read this post from Matt Cutts too http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-chrome-communication/ but it caught my attention.

Thoughts?

Indeed, the search feature is turning out to be really handy. Initial usage is turning out to be quite enjoyable.

Hey, its not Firefox (here I'm thinking of extensions) nor Internet Explorer (here I'm thinking, thank god), but the experience overall is good.

One little gripe (is it?) is that I can't find anywhere that indicates the status of the loading progress (You know 'Transferring Data', '15/483 pictures loaded', etc). With especially slow and shaky dial up connections where I am now, I can't trust the loading of a page until I see the status in the (hey) status bar.

Am I missing something here?

    • yeah it seems to be Edge only. The dialog buttons work as expected in Chrome and Firefox. The phone is using Android 16 (OneUI 8.5) and Edge version  149.0.4022.53
    • I'm not aware of this issue, but to help the other guys.  What version of Android are you using? Did you try a different browser? To see if Edge is the issue here.
    • I agree when are you going to read this (really poor BTW) article? Here is a better article so you actually know what is going on and answers questions you had in other comments --> https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/05/speed-boosting-low-latency-profile-is-one-of-the-improvements-coming-to-windows-11/ It is unclear if one will be able to disable the new profile at this point but I am not seeing any reason why one would.
