Vista Upgrade Reinstall

Recommended Posts

Ok, I was on my pc one day and suddenly it turned off..when restarting it I was met with a BSOD (vista on HD)..finally i got a new HD and installed XP on it..my old HD with vista is in tact but I cant boot from it

I tried repair and restore, both did not work

so I want to reinstall the vista upgrade on my vista (which itself is an upgrade from XP)..will that affect my data?

Tried both of them and didnt work

Also, when i insert the Vista DVD I can boot from it, see all the available options, that how I got to try the repair

THE CENTRAL Q: Will I lose my data if I perform an update reinstall of vista on my already updated OS?

lol you still should not have started a new thread..

anyway as far as I know, since you have vista installed the only way to use the vista upgrade disc if you already have vista installed (You can only use the upgrade disc to upgrade if you have xp installed) is to use this method:

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvi...grade_clean.asp

Which lets you perform a clean isntall from an upgrade disc.

So unless you have non-upgrade copy of vista, yes you WILL lose your data. If you do a normal reinstall using a regular vista disc you won't but you should ALWAYS backup your data anyway, alwaaaays.

Of course there is always the chance your drive is just bricked. Put the drive in a another pc and try to get the data off it.

I answered the question in my post above. An upgrade will only effect system files. Your data will remain intact.

chill out ok? i dont know why ur so upset and rude!
