I didn't find it hilariously funny, but then again I didn't find MacVsPC any funnier, they're about on par with each other in terms of humour, relevance and informativeness.

Being honest, it's probably a good thing it didn't just out rightly say "omg vista rocks!" because of it's already poor image, people would have just recoiled and ignored the rest of the ad. This is a bit more subtle, it's quirky, people will appreciate it more and when more of the ads appear will warm up to Microsoft in general.

I thought the first rule of advertising was to make it clear what you are trying to sell... seems to be an unusual strategy so far!

Maybe their thinking is:

Release funny/bizarre ad

Get people talking and wondering wtf

Get them looking for what will happen in the next ad

Produce more adverts so that "message" appears out of the whole series instead of 1 big pushy advert

A commercial that doesn't advertise anything - Genius! It really makes me want to buy this... uhm... oh, nevermind!

I knew this was going to suck, and to my amazement, it sucks more than expected.

half the adverts you see are like that now

this is obviously going to build up to something. they didnt spend all the money on this one ad, like a lot of people on here seem to think

I didnt expect a MAC jab but more about Microsoft and Vista. However I am sure people are tired of Microsoft promising things in the future and then they drop the ball like they did in Vista with some of the cool features it was supposed to have that they just dropped .... just like the commercial... they dropped the ball again.

here is all the info we need to know about this:

It's a set-up ad for a multi-episode roll-out. This skit introduces the characters and establishes the mood & tone for their relationship. Think of it as a first act in a serial. The punch line won't come until several skits later.

So, they are not going to talk about Vista/Windows/Microsoft for quite a while... And we are supposed to not enjoy these commercials?

This is so "not" about Windows, that it reminds me of a parody of the 1980's ads about jeans and perfume/cologne: random junk about things far from the topic, then the logo displayed at the end. (N)

What I find weird is that Bill Gates's "last full-time day at Microsoft was June 27, 2008. He remains at Microsoft as a part-time, non-executive chairman." --Wikipedia

Now they have a commercial with him?

Bill Gates in a commercial? The commercial we were talking about is with Jerry Seinfeld

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
