PermaSt0ne
Sooo i decided to move my pagefile from my C: (advanced system properties, unticking C: and ticking D:) to D: another 5GB partition. i have it set for a minimum of 16MB to a maximum of 3GB when i look at the pagefile.sys on the new partition the file size is 16MB, but when i run dxdiag it says "Page File: 1130MB used, 2853MB available" so does this mean windows is using another pagefile somewhere? or is dxdiag talking about something else Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665822-vista-using-multiple-pagefiles/ Share on other sites

nautiqueskier
You will suffer a performance hit if you move your pagefile to a different partition on the same drive. This is because the partitions are in different locations on the same drive. As windows is working away, it has to keep moving between its partition and the pagefile partition which incurs latency. soldier1st
if you move it to another HDD then you should not suffer any performance issues. PermaSt0ne
the 5GB partition is on another drive so it can read/write at the same time windows is loading, so no need to worry about performance issues i'm just confused that the pagefile is only 16MB big. it should be way bigger if it's storing all the frequently used files. and dxdiag says there's a 1GB pagfile somewhere my computer is using that i can't find Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665822-vista-using-multiple-pagefiles/#findComment-589748046 Share on other sites
Brandon Live Veteran Posted September 6, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 6, 2008 DXdiag may be giving the same output as Task Manager, where the "page file" label is misleading, as it refers to the entire virtual memory space (i.e. including your physical memory). Even if you disable the page file completely, you'll still see a value in Task Manager next to "page file" equal to the amount of RAM you have.
