I know the 54 G is awesome... and the GS is supposedly faster... what's the GL?

And I've read so many TERRIBLE reviews on their N series stuff... and my mothers laptop can NOT connect to the 350N setup at their house...

What router would you guys recommend? I do heavy downloading and gaming.

The GS has speedbooster and the GL has a linux based firmware which allows you to flash a third party firmware like Tomato or DDWRT. I think the G can take some third party ones but it pretty limited.

GL was a re-released G since they stopped making the G with Linux installed so you could no longer install alt firmwares. After getting lots of bad press the GL emerged and the world cried with joy.

My GL runs Tomato and has done since purchase. Super stuff.

honestly I like the N router we have at my girl's place. It's the 300N and it's been great. TONS of features in this unit and fantastic reception on wireless. I can actually use it from my parking spot in my car, at least 150 feet away from the apartment, and on the opposite side of the building from our place. It's nice because then I can easily transfer music from my desktop to my hard drive that's hooked up to my stereo in the car.

The 54G (and GL) are great too though. Not really as good feature-wise (definitely flash tomato on if you want some extra features) but they're sturdy. I have them installed in a few small businesses and have 2 hooked up together here at my place (one upstairs one downstairs)

See... my fear is that I'll have the same problem my parents have. My mothers laptop will ONLY connect to it via wired connection OR if it's sitting less than 2 feet away... my fathers laptop, though, has no issues *shrugs* And the Wii connects sporadically.
