Want to learn sql


Question

Hi guys, I want to learn SQL syntax. It is not exactly learning but refreshing my memory coz I learned it back in university. Well the thing is that I need a software that do my work on (for a week or two).

Can some one recommend a software for me? Can I use the SQL server 2008 express edition? coz I have the web developer and c# 2008 express editions and it will work along with them. Also, Will it slow down my pc?

System requiremnet:-

Asus commando

Intel Core2Duo E6750

4GB RAM

Nvidia 8600GTS

Vista 64

Yes, you can use the express edition, although it's functionality is somewhat limited.

It will slow your PC down a bit to start with, as it has to launch the server when you boot, however, once it's logged in and running, you wont notice a difference. You could always do what I do, and have all of your server apps installed in a virtual machine - works just as well, and you can choose when you want them running :p

It is possible to make the server don't launch when I boot the pc? and launch it when I want (also close it when I want)?

not played around in 2008 yet but in 2005 yes you go into sql configuration manager and set startup type. I have all the sql services set to manual then before i launch into visual studio team system just go into the sql config manager and manually start the services.
