Do long IDE cables exsist?

Recommended Posts

Or would this be against some kind of specification? I notced almost all IDE cables seem to be the same size.

The problem is I need to connect two drives to the same IDE port, but they are spaced very far apart in the case, not much I can do about it because if I space them closer they would overheat (one of them is in a 5 inch bay with a cooler).

Do long IDE cables exsist so I can connect these two together or no?

And if they do, where can I buy them? I haven't seen any when I looked.

Just used a tape measure.

Rough estimate, the two drives are about 11 inches apart, with some slack, I guess the cable would need about 13 inches between the master and slave.

As for connecting it to the IDE card.

Well, since you need to connect it to the motherboard from the connection closest to the slave, its about 16 inches from the slave to the IDE card, with some slack, about 19 or so inches?

Its thats not possible, I could switch places between the slave and master and re-assign the drive letters in Windows, in which case, although the drives would still be the same distances apart, the new slave woudl then be about 14 or so inches from the IDE card, I guess with slack I would need about 17 inches then from the slave to the IDE card.

One of the drives is 160 gigs and the other 300, don't I need ATA133 or something like that for drives over 120 gigs?
