Max Veteran Posted September 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 8, 2008 How would I go about letting someone use my wireless connection on my router, without any kind of access to my files or network? I know I can just set permissions and stuff on the computers but I'd prefer something that will totally isolate my network from his via the router. Anyway to do this? TurboTuna
What wireless router do you have? Most have an option for whats called "Client Isolation" or "Wireless Isolation". It allows you to stop machines on your LAN/WLAN from being able to communicate with each other. offroadaaron
there should be something call closed network (or close to that name) means that people cant connect to any other computers on the LAN via wireless. firewall will do the trick also. The only way to share is to allow that using the "Network and Sharing Center" and other PC's would have to enter your Username and Password to gain access. That's what I do with my Laptop. Thats an OS setting and has nothing to do with the router. primexx
AP Isolation, it's in your advanced wireless settings page on the router. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666508-sharing-a-router-with-a-friend/#findComment-589755004 Share on other sites

By default, there's no file sharing. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/666508-sharing-a-router-with-a-friend/#findComment-589755026 Share on other sites
Admiral Michael
I think that AP isolation only applies to wireless clients. A wireless client can still access a wired client, but not another wireless client.
