Call of Duty 5 gets Euro date & beta info

News by Dan Pearson

The Call of Duty: World at War European multiplayer beta test will begin in October for PC and Xbox 360. Either a PS3 beta has yet to be announced, or simply won't happen. Wii beta tests have yet to be invented.

Publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that the Boot Camp will open its doors on an unspecified date next month, also confirming the UK release date as 14th November. That puts the UK a mere three days behind the US, where the game will see first light on 11th November.

Players will be able to try their hands at the new squad system, as well as experimenting with the features inherited from Modern Warfare, such as the perk system.

Treyarch boss Mark Lamia is understandably "excited to share a sneak peak of Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer with the community", explaining: "The team has worked hard to build upon the great history and foundation of Call of Duty multiplayer and we can't wait to go online to ramp up for our November launch."

The fifth game in the series reverts to a more traditional WWII setting after Modern Warfare's foray into contemporary battlefields, sort of like Back to the Future with artillery. Expectations are obviously high after the success of Infinity Ward's game, so why not get an inside edge on how it'll handle?

More information will be released via the series' website, and here, as it emerges. Assuming all those SOCOM people go away so our server starts working again.

This news is from Friday last week but afaik nobody posted it, so worth a mention for those who haven't completely given up on COD5.

This news is from Friday last week but afaik nobody posted it, so worth a mention for those who haven't completely given up on COD5.

Good news. It amazes me how fast those CoD games are pumped out. It wasn't too long ago I'd finished CoD4 fully.

I kind of thought COD5 was something else and that this was just a side project.

Indeed, I'm pretty sure they even said something about how they think the game is good enough on its own merits to not need a number "5" but people re still labelling it with a "5" even though the official boxart doesn't have one.

But that doesn't seem to stop anyone around the internet it seems.

COD5 has nothing to do with COD: World at War...

Nope.... because they saw fit to make a direct continuation of CoD4.... that takes place what, at least 30 years before what was portrayed in CoD4? how in the hell does that make any sense? If they come out with CoD5 at any time after World at War.... people are seriously going to think "wtf happened?"

The reason people are labeling it as CoD5.... is because it's easier that way. The reason i believe that Treyarch is NOT labeling it as CoD5.... is because a numbering system get's old FAST. Hell, look at Final Fantasy. When you get beyond Final Fantasy 10.... it's getting ridiculous.

i dunno.... still think it'll be downright strange. I know they've done it before.... but it's weird to make that big of a jump in timeline just for an outcrop of the game.

edit: oh god.... if they make Modern Warfare 2.... a game series out of a game series...... wtf.

Yeah I know you didn't come up with the title Andy - Just goes to show how confused everyone is and I do agree with ElementalDragon, it's strange.

One of the downsides by having some shoddy 3rd party company develop a game under a great franchise name and then messing around with numbering.
