Analyst Convinced EA Will Buy Take-Two

EA and Take-Two's drawn-out acquisition dance has been dragging on since February of this year, but in the end, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is certain EA will buy the Grand Theft Auto maker.

"We remain convinced that EA will prevail in its bid for Take-Two," said Pachter in a Friday investor note. "Now that EA has received FTC approval for the combination, the company is not under any pressure to keep the negotiations alive."

EA recently withdrew its offer of $25.74 per share, or around $2 billion total, to enter friendly talks with Take-Two regarding a buyout.

Take-Two management has repeatedly said that the amount offered is "inadequate."

Pachter added, "In our view, Take-Two management is interested in completing an acquisition by EA or by another party. We think that management has chosen to pull out all stops to demonstrate the company?s earnings power this year..."

The Grand Theft Auto franchise and the corresponding talent behind it have been obvious factors in EA's desire to acquire Take-Two. But since GTA IV is now in the rearview mirror, Take-Two may have lost leverage.

"Now that the 'GTA trade' is behind us, we think that EA may decide to demonstrate its leverage by threatening to walk away," Pachter said.

When speculation circulated this week that merger talks were going truly sour, Take-Two shares slid 5.6 percent.

At market close Friday, Take-Two shares were up 2 percent to $23.75.

Pachter stated, "...We believe that [EA] can complete a deal at a lower price by breaking off negotiations and cooling its heels for a few weeks. However, we think that EA has 'deal lust' and vastly prefers a friendly deal.

"Thus, we expect the company to increase its bid by a modest amount (likely $1-2) in order to complete a friendly deal."

It would be another sad day for gamers. EA may have the casual market sure but any self respecting hard core gamer has had them on boycott for ages and buying out 2K will only make that worse. Less choice for us is always a horrible thing. I freaking hate EA.

You are not the only one. My hope remains with Valve and Blizzard.

Are you being serious?

Actually he is right (a little). GTA IV may have sold massively on the PS3 and 360, but the little kids wait it for PC, because not everyone has PS3/360. At least here in my city, if you go to a gaming club, you'll never see someone playing GTA IV on the PS3s that they have, but everyone playing GTA SA on PC. Many of them are saying that they are waiting for GTA IV for PC. Not that they are going to buy it, but at least they are waiting for it and not caring about the console version.

Do you honestly think people give a **** about the GTA IV Xbox 360/PS3 version? No.

10 million + sales says otherwise.

Anyway I used to really hate EA's practices. Now days I think they are at a turning point. Yes they still churn the sports titles out but they are also handling other franchises better and forming partnerships with some rather important developers such as ID and Valve which surely means they are doing something right in their partners programs. Also there are several EA games I've liked in the past 12 - 18 months and a few more on the horizon.

Let's get something cleared up here. What you think != what everyone else thinks. I run a GTA website and GTA IV on the consoles is far from dead. The biggest thing at the moment is what will come in the episodic content packs, not GTA IV for PC. In fact, most people don't give two hoots about the PC version, because they know it'll be ruined by the same thing every other PC game is ruined by: high system requirements, DRM, and cheating online.

Yes

I bet you the PC version will do triple that....

ALL BS

Games dont have DRM, you can cheat on consoles too, and high system requirments? It looks better than your limitations :)

Look I was not looking to start a PC vs Console thing; I was just stating that GTA IV will sell more copies for PC than for concsoles. Thats my opinion.

EA has been on a roll lately, they've got some great new IP's on the horizon also. I think this is good news, it just means more money for Take-Two which can't be a bad thing. Remember, EA is under new management and it shows. It's like they're Electronic Arts again, so maybe EA no longer translates into "Satan".

I will say I'm impressed with Dead Space and the way that's looking, but other than that I still feel EA is a crap company. This is my personal opinion now, but I think they are one of the absolutely worse at the crap annual sequels. It's like they spend more development time making new copy protection code than they do making the game better.

Let's look at the new Harry Potter game that was forced to be delayed. I'll admit it does screw EA that they are going to miss the holiday sales window for this game, Warner Brothers really should pay some penality for that, however that said, do we honestly think they are going to use this extra 10 months to make a better game? Obviously I can't say for certain, but I bet they just shelf it for 10 months and not spend another dollar on it, when they can turn this negative into a gift horse and make the best movie-tie in recent memory.

I bet you the PC version will do triple that....

I'd like to bet otherwise. Infact I'd say 5 million would be a stretch. I can't vouch for how accurate this chart is, but heres wikipedia's list of top selling PC titles. For that list at least not a single GTA PC title even factors into the list. Even if it did it's certainly nowhere near the mark you seem to believe.

    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.82 Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.4.2550 Updated MPC Audio Renderer A few crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements. • Microsoft will finally let you sign in to Edge with a Google account by Usama Jawad As things currently stand, Microsoft Edge only allows you to sign in to the browser with a Microsoft Account (MSA). This allows you to sync your browser settings and other data across other devices, as long as you sign in with the same account. However, Microsoft is now modifying this mechanism in a way that will likely please many users. In an update to its Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft has indicated that it will soon let users sign into Edge using a Google account from the profile menu and the Edge sign-in screen. This will be in addition to the MSA login option, and it opens up new doors for people who prefer using Edge, but cannot be bothered to configure a Microsoft account. This brings several advantages such as the ability to sync your data across devices using just a Google account. It may even facilitate flexible single sign-on (SSO) experiences where you can quickly login to websites and services through a single Google account that is presented as the preferred sign-in option. Up until now, Microsoft allowed customers to indirectly use a Google account, by configuring a Google account as a Microsoft account, or by setting up a one-way sync option between Edge and Chrome. This is a rather interesting development, especially considering that Google Chrome still limits you to a Google account sign-in, but it will be interesting to see if the company reciprocates Microsoft's gesture in the future. This is not the only recent instance in which Microsoft has extended a handshake to Google via Edge. In April 2026, it began tracking the development of a work search banner for Google Search queries, just like the one present in Edge. However, if we go back almost seven years, to January 2020, Microsoft had emphasized that it had no plans to "integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default", in response to people requesting Google sign-in services on Edge. Fast-forward to today, and Microsoft is planning to release this feature in July 2026, with IT admins having the option to control its availability on Windows and macOS through the NonMicrosoftAccountSignInEnabled policy.
    • If they ever come out and say the AI is no longer accessible to the gen pop people aren't going to know how to tie their own shoelaces.
    • It's hard not to when they are shoehorning Ai into EVERYTHING. Some are active users by choice, I bet a lot of them are because it's shoved in their face the entire time.
