Daughter just won an Xbox 360

Are we talking about games for you or your daughter?

If you mean you..

Halo 3

Call of Duty 4

Bioshock

Orange Box (if you can't play it anywhere else i.e PC)

Gears of War (third person shooter but still good, and the sequel comes out this November)

Battlefield Bad Company

Some other non-FPS you might like..

Mass Effect

Forza Motorsport 2

PGR3 & 4

Grand Theft Auto 4

Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 (mix of FPS & TPS)

Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 1 & 2

Ninja Gaiden 2

Rock Band

Guitar Hero 2 & 3

Could perhaps start with the good ol' Gears of War, and Halo selections :p Great games. I personally recommend BioShock also. Congratulations on the win, as well, by the way. My girlfriend just won a 16gb iPod touch, as well as new shoes and has just calimed about $500 tax back. All I've won this whole year is $25 from V :p She's lucky.

But yeah...Gears of War, Halo 3 and BioShock for me. Oh, Call of Duty 4 is fun too...but maybe just rent that one out.

Oh and one other thing...this Xbox Live deal...sorry but I haven't payed much attention to consoles since I had a Sega Genesis. I'm assuming that most games don't require that...it's just for team play??

If you want to play any of the games online you will need to subscribe to Xbox Live (there is different packages including 1month, 3months and 12months iirc). You can play every game without Xbox Live though :)

Some more family friendly games would be..

Viva Pinata 1 & 2

Scene it? Lights, Camera, Action

Kameo Elements of Power

Lego Star Wars

Lego Indiana Jones

Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts is out very soon (along with the N64 classics on Xbox Live Arcade)

All the usual sports titles from EA & 2K Games (NFL, NHL, NBA, Tiger Woods etc)

Rock Band is great family/multiplayer game

Then there is hundreds of games on Xbox Live Arcade aswell from classics like Pac-Man / Frogger to new IP like Geometry Wars / Braid.

You've got Xbox Live Silver, which is free, and Gold, which is the paid option. Xbox Live Silver includes everything but online multiplayer. That's the one I've got, and it's still alright, you can download demos and stuff and talk to your friends :)

Quite a lot of girls I know (who'd be roughly the same age as your daughter) like Guitar Hero. Rock Band is more fun at parties but also more expensive. My sister absolutely loves Portal, but it's pretty short so you might wanna think about if you're interested in playing Half-life, else the Orange Box might not be worth it.

In terms of upcoming games, Viva Pinata 2 should be good, I've got the original, and that's another one that my sister loves. Lips (like SingStar but with added features) looks pretty interesting, and might be a better choice than GH/RB if your daughter doesn't really like rock music.

Oh, and Halo's good (Y)

EDIT: Someone recommended Bioshock...a fantastic game, I'd recommend that as well (but more for you)

If you do want to buy xbox Live, get it off of eBay - you can usually find it for about half price (well, here in the UK you can :))

Yup, and look out for people selling the 13 month special edition subs. Even more for your money (Y) I'm not sure how many of them will still be floating around, afaik they were Halo 3 promotions.

Keep in mind that when you sign up for Xbox Live, you will get one month of Gold for free. :)

Also look at xbox live arcade games. My wife loves playing Hexic and Zuma. There are free demos you can download from Xbox Live. (Silver or Gold - doesn't matter)

For her (some games are going to be released soon) - well, I like RPGs and I know several girls who like them too:

- The Orange Box (most likely Portal :)

- Eternal Sonata (RPG)

- Lost Odyssey (RPG)

Future releases:

- Rise of Argonauts (Release date: 10/14/2008)

- Fable II (10/21/2008)

- Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (11/11/2008)

- The Last Remnant (11/20/2008)

She's 15, not 8 lol.

I am sure she is exposed to a lot worse at school. Try out the marketplace and see what games you will both find fun. I am not too sure about what games girls enjoy, but there is a massive library online, and at blockbuster / netflix

We got Viva Pinata and SOF Payback (I used to play alot of SOF2 on pc) used at Gamestop. Viva Pinata looks cool, but I've yet to pry her away from it to try SOF. I'm off tomorrow while she's in school, so dad's gonna veg on the couch :D . As far as the Live deal, we're all wireless from my Airport and gamestop was a bit steep on the wireless adapter ($100)--gonna shop around for that.

    • Given only Volume license customers and specific resellers can obtain the LTSC versions legitimately it seems likely that this has been tinkered with quite a lot!
    • Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms looming price hikes due to memory shortages by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple Memory and chip shortages have led to significant price increases for electronics over the past year, and it seems that more hikes are on the way for upcoming smartphones and computers. Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company is planning to increase the prices of some of its products due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook confirmed the looming price hikes for Apple’s future products, adding that “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.” He also said the company is doing its best to “mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.” The Apple CEO also noted that the allocation of a large portion of memory chips to AI companies has contributed to shortages in the market, resulting in lower supply at a time when demand for devices remains high. “We definitely need memory pricing and supply to return to reasonable levels for consumer products. That’s the bottom line,” Cook said. Cook also added that Apple is ready to use its vast cash reserves to help boost supply in the market because additional production capacity is needed. While he declined to specify how Apple plans to do that, he said the company will not build its own memory and storage factories despite its financial resources and silicon expertise. Cook did not provide further details on the scale of the price increases or which Apple products would be affected, though iPads and Macs could see higher prices sooner than other products. Apple’s next product launch event is scheduled for September, when the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. It remains unclear whether the upcoming iPhones will be affected by the price increases, but given the current memory shortage, higher prices seem increasingly likely. There is currently no clear timeline for the end of the memory shortage. Samsung, one of the world’s three largest memory chip manufacturers, recently said the shortage could persist for several more years.
