Britney Spears Comeback?

Recommended Posts

hmm shes looking good but, shes caked up in makeup and looks totally different, I actually prefer her without all the makeup, she does have natural good looks, like our silicon clad Katie Price aka Jordan, when shes has no make up I think Jordan looks 50x nicer, same with Miss Spears.

All she has to do now is learn to be musically talented and be able to sing instead of lipsync and be heavily studio produced....mmm Vocoder anyone?

Oh and could some one please tell her she looks like a total ###### when she does the tongue sticking out thing.......its not sexy, its not seductive, it was remarked on when she first appeared trying to be suggestive, reminds me of a dog hanging out the passengers side window at 35mph going "duh check me out...huhuhuhuhuhu"

Id still buy her a beer though :)

Well I can't say I feel she deserved these particular awards but at the same time I'd be very happy to see her get her career back on track and stay out of her depressed state. I don't have any reason to wish ill on her and despite what one may think of her music, she has had a large impact on the industry. I'm glad she appears to be quite happy here and looking pretty healthy too.

The difference between this comeback and last years attempt:

1) She has the media behind her - a lot of crap just isn't sticking any more because she has accepted their support, and they have accepted that there is still a lot of albums to be shifted under the "Britney Spears" brand.

2) She actually has admitted her illness, and is living with it and dealing with it. She is more mentally ready to be thrown into the limelight again.

3) America is facing a fairly dark time with the financial issues. America likes to believe in the American dream, and moreover, that dream sustaining through bad times. Seeing Britney come back strong will be a trivial but meaningful symbol to some. Point 1 isgoing to do all it can to deliver.

Problem is - he money and fame obsessed mum is still in the scene. This woman is not what a mother should be - she is still profeteering off Britney!

Personally I'd like to see her come back strong and have a few great albums then who knows.

As for her music: OK, it could be described as throwaway pop, fine. But I think that her 3rd, 4th and 5th albums had some very strong album tracks.

Reception

Critical Reviews were generally favorable. According to Metacritic, which combines reviews from the nations top critics, the album has a 66% approval rating.[26]

The Sun newspaper in the U.K. had an exclusive preview of the album and were the first ones to post the world's first reviews of Circus.[27] Of the track, "If U Seek Amy", "It?s a great track. A stomping robo pop number with clattering kettle drums and Brit being quite frank about the opinion she holds of herself". "Kill the Lights" was described as "a brilliant disco banger". The reviewer expressed the opinion that the album had similarities to Madonna's Hard Candy.[28]

According to Nick Levine of Digital Spy, it has many similarities to her last studio album, although she sounds more confident and there is less reliance on the vocoder. "Out From Under" was described as "a teary eyed ballad...that's really quite lovely".[29]

Billboard Magazine gave a very postive review of "Circus." It states "From the synthy open of "Womanizer" to the regretful ache spurring "Blur," "Circus" gives Brit pop a whole new meaning" and goes on to say "she is in a class of her own." [30]

However, The Hartford Courant did not feel that it was her best performance, writing "It's too bad the best songs here don't really match up with her best performances, but that's nothing new for Spears."[31]

Slant Magazine gave an unfavorable review as well, writing that Circus "doesn't quite feel like a comeback",[32] while The Guardian felt that the album was "substantially less edgy and exciting than its predecessor."[33] Allmusic was in a similar agreement with The Guardian, writing that the album "never feels as sleek or addictive as its predecessor."[34]

Commercial

The album sold 219,000 copies in its first day of release in the U.S.[35] And 18,319 copies in its two first days of release in France, peaking at #5 in the French weekly album charts.

Watched that documentary last night. She came across genuine in it, and did actually address some issues. But totally skirted around the drugs thing. Shame - I personally feel you can only move on after baring all.

I really want her to do well though. And Womanizer is getting amazing reactions when I play it now.

Womanizer is too addictive on the mind :|

I know, everyone is singing it!!

My hat goes off to her for the comeback. I've been a fan of Britney for a very long time. At the moment I dislike and like how everyone is jumping on the Britney love bandwagon because those people weren't showing support through the times where she needed support. However it's great because it shows that she's getting back on track (Y)

Did anyone see her bad miming on the X Factor? If she couldn't sing and dance live like the contestants have to week in week out then she shouldn't have been allowed to perform at all if you ask me. Looks like China's got the right idea, Britney Spears-style miming banned from China's biggest television show
