yaronf
What is the best way to disable WPA on a brand new copy of XP? I have read many opinions in the past, is there an agreed method for doing it nice & clean? Thanx, Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/ Share on other sites

wazat
Why would you want to??? Install it, activate it, and enjoy it...... Mind you what do I do with the wpa file if I want to reinstall XP, that is what I would like to know. If anybody has reinstalled XP then used the wpa file from their first install... and it worked, let me know how.... I presume it needs to be done in reshacker or possibly in safe mode but I haven't tried. betadan
i'm sorry...but if you have a "new copy" of Windows XP and you want to disable WPA...the your "new copy" must have been pirated.....or can you give us a legitimate reason for disabling WPA on a new copy of XP Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-45985 Share on other sites
Spyder Veteran Posted December 1, 2001 Veteran Share Posted December 1, 2001 wazat..you dont need to keep the file. Don't worry about it. When you re-install and go to activate again, it won't give you a problem because its the same computer that it was installed on previously. Binary
Some people are bothered by the fact that MS is spying on us, thats maybe why he wants to use it without activating. I dont trust MS either.... They were very stupid for putting wpa into XP. If I had the money I'd be on a mac right now and say screw XP, but thats not too far off anyways ;) And personally I think you should be able to use your copy of XP on more then 1 puter as long as its within the same household. Or at least they could have allowed you to install it on a laptop and a desktop.. they are fools! grrrr :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-45991 Share on other sites
yaronf
Hehehe well, I am running Devilsown right now but this is a $29.99 XP upgrade coupon I got when I purchased my new laptop. The point is that I *paid* for this copy, and I want to experiment with it for educational purposes only :alien: Geez... and I thought that Neowin is a cool 3l33t place ... Kanecorp
if you've bought your copy-no reason to disable the WPA, if you're reinstalling your copy of WinXP, just call MS, they'll give you a new Key Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-45999 Share on other sites
yaronf
Binary is 100% right, Geez..didn't this place used to be cool or something? if I wanted to get advice like "you should activate WPA cause MS says its good for you" or "you have no reason to disable WPA" I would have posted this question on AOL :D Cheers Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-46008 Share on other sites
Steven P. Administrators Posted December 1, 2001 Administrators Share Posted December 1, 2001 Maybe our visitors were upholding this rule: No Warez (links) or Cracks: These kinds of posts are not tolerated here WPA is a fact get over it or go somewhere else to talk about cracking WPA, because I don't find that kind of talk "cool" here. If you don't like WPA, use something else. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-46013 Share on other sites
yaronf
Following this logic, any tweak to windows is a crack. Does this mean that all other Windows features which can be tweaked using tweaking tools, including Microsoft's own Power also considered cracking? I bought a copy of Windows XP, I intend to use it legally and install it on a single PC, yet, I plan to disable features like Auto Updates, Sending error reports, and any other process which sends information to MS servers - WPA. I respect the no warez no cracks policy Neowin which I find as a great site. Anyway, my intention was not cracking or warez. Cheers. [f]
Following this logic, any tweak to windows is a crack. Uh NO ... Neobond obviously understands the difference between posts on "how to remove the recycle bin from the desktop" and removing WPA, one is going to have MS breathing down his neck, the other won't .... you guess which one MS WON'T like.Maybe someone should jeapordize all of neowin.net just for your stupid question. I plan to disable features like Auto Updates, Sending error reports, and any other process which sends information to MS servers - WPA. who says WPA has to send information to MS servers....ever hear of a phone? Anyway, my intention was not cracking or warez uh....yeah right LOL... if i had a real payed for copy of XP...i wouldnt care about WPA.....i think thats what everyone else is saying....and i understand thats not to your liking.... but you asked in a public forum....and u get the answers you get. cheers. Spyder Veteran Posted December 2, 2001 Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2001 Kanecorp..that is wrong FYI.. you can reinstall on the same computer, and activate the same reg code without having to call MS. Nidonocu
If there has been no change to the hardware, then Windows Setup produces the same code. WPA recorgnises this as a Re-Install and let's it through. No prob.:) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-46123 Share on other sites

Spyder Veteran Posted December 2, 2001 Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2001 Thats right. The only exception would be if you changed your hardware significantly. Fonze
People who bitch about Wpa are obviously trying to pirate xp or install it on multiple PCs. If you are afraid of Microsoft Spying on you then you are also afraid of the boogyman. Binary
Just to get it straight, I dont think cracking wpa is right, it is here and we do have to live with it :( but I am against the fact that MS had to use scare tactics and not trust it's customers. And I'm also against the fact that they are "spying" on us. My suggestion is to get that program thingy that cuts off all MS "spyware" from XP. And the bandwidth reservation thing I read about the other day topped the cake. XP = Great OS MS = Bad Company Anyways, have a nice day :D Chris Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-46361 Share on other sites
halibut007
just browsing the thread and saw that there was a lack of support for someone who did not agree with ms. not everyone who cracks or wants to crack wpa wants to do it because they have a pirated copy of xp. some people just have a problem with the privacy issues involved with wpa. i understand that wpa is simple, painless, and doesnt send any "personal" information to microsoft. it does however send info about your hardware which is some information. even though wpa is here it doesnt mean consumers have to put up with it. what happens in future releases of great os's like xp when and if they tie wpa to registration or force you to create a .NET account. xp wpa is just a foot in the door. privacy should always be a concerning the internet. yaronf
As someone who started this thread, I hope I can finish it so we can all move to better, more interesting things :) To those who attacked me - if I wanted to get a pirated copy of XP I would simply go to google or alt.binaries...... and get one, its that easy. I bought a new laptop, with a LEGIT OEM copy of XP Pro. and all I want is to disable some automated "spyware" and other features running in the background, such as the 20% "tax" on bandwidth, WPA, and more (see http://www.xp-antispy.de/) for more details. Thanx for you who suppoted and the one person who gave me the lead :knocked: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/6670-how-do-i-disable-xp-wpa/#findComment-46423 Share on other sites
