Tip: When you cannot sign on to Windows Live Messenger

Recommended Posts

go to start, run and put the following and press enter

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

this is especially helpful on the error 81000306 you might get when trying to sign in to live messenger

this works for XP SP3 and Vista.

Would help to know what this does and why it works... if it even does.

Windows Vista and XP SP3 introduced a new feature called auto tuning which continually adjusts the Receive Window size based on the network conditions. This has caused some problems with some windows apps specifically time out issues

go to start, run and put the following and press enter

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

this is especially helpful on the error 81000306 you might get when trying to sign in to live messenger

Diesnt do anything, just gives an error. Im on SP3 as well.

Diesnt do anything, just gives an error.

this is only an issue with XP SP3 and Vista

must be some other issue, I am able to run it here on my machine perfectly fine.

is this 'netsh' command vista-only?

sorry im a noob... in my xp sp3, i can run netsh, and i can get netsh int , like the 'netsh interface context', but typing 'tcp' when it is in that context makes it say 'the following command was not found'... so all that "set global autotuninglevel=disabled" stuff isnt gonna work

Probably a good place to drop this.

It's a Messenger Error Fixer, does a few .dll fixes depending on the error you choose from the list of fixes it offers. It's a few years old and from memory it's from mess.be.
