CEO Perspective “We had yet another strong month for PlayStation in August, which validates that consumers are indeed recognizing the long-term value that PS3 offers as both a gaming and home entertainment device. We also began shipping the new 80GB PS3 model in late August to address any short term inventory transitions from the 40GB to 80GB model. We’re looking forward to a solid holiday season and are excited to offer a string of unmatched content to consumers in the coming months with LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.” - Jack Tretton, president and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America[/quoSource: The Bit Bag] Pretty much another article on NPD results.. NPD Group reported Thursday that Xbox 360 and PS3 were virtually neck-and-neck on the hardware front (195,200 vs. 185,400, respectively), but Sony says those figures don't illustrate the entire hardware story. The firm said total PlayStation hardware unit sales were 582,000, including PS3, PS2 and PSP. Year-to-date, Sony also said the PlayStation brand has generated nearly $3.7 billion in revenue, a 21 percent increase year-on-year. Total hardware revenue for PlayStation was $147 million during August, a year-to-date rise of 42 percent. PlayStation total software revenue for August was $178 million, a year-to-date increase of 25 percent, the firm said. SCEA CEO Jack Tretton said in a statement, "We had yet another strong month for PlayStation in August, which validates that consumers are indeed recognizing the long-term value that PS3 offers as both a gaming and home entertainment device. "We also began shipping the new 80GB PS3 model in late August to address any short term inventory transitions from the 40GB to 80GB model." Tretton then hyped up PS3's software lineup: "We're looking forward to a solid holiday season and are excited to offer a string of unmatched content to consumers in the coming months with LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift."[/quoSource: EDGE] Edited September 12, 2008 by DrunknMunky Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/668708-sony-responds-to-npd-results/ Share on other sites
Rookas
We?re looking forward to a solid holiday season and are excited to offer a string of unmatched content to consumers in the coming months with LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. With the exception of LBP I wouldn't exactly call that "unmatched" with competition like Fable 2, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead and Banjo-Kazooie. Why can't they just say, "yeah, we got some good stuff coming".:D:D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/668708-sony-responds-to-npd-results/#findComment-589779062 Share on other sites
DPyro
Banjo-kajooie will suck, and the others will end up on PC anyway. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/668708-sony-responds-to-npd-results/#findComment-589785010 Share on other sites

Why can't they just say, "yeah, we got some good stuff coming". :D It's just PR talk, MS will probably say they have an unmatched lineup as well, and well Nintendo will just say.... "We're selling a **** load of hardware, quality software? Who cares?" I am quite liking forward to Sony's lineup this year, but mainly LBP. I'm quite enjoying Socom mind you, I just hope it's patched up and ready to go for release. WipeoutHD is one not mentioned above that should be good. sn00pie
Even with all the price drops Microsoft is throwing at the Xbox 360 its still neck to neck with the PS3? That's pretty good if you ask me. To be honest the only game I'm really looking forward to his EA's next racing game ~ NFS: Undercover. From their recent releases and their teaser trailer for the game itself. It's quite apparent to me that they've finally stepped up their game and we will start seeing some quality titles from them. LBP looks interesting and could easily help push more PS3 units out the door, but for me the next NFS is going to be huge! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/668708-sony-responds-to-npd-results/#findComment-589785638 Share on other sites

HawkMan
interesting how they play the numbers About the games they only the PS3 numbers, and say they have a higher attach rate. Of course they do, there are fewer PS3's out there, and less games to choose from, of course the PS3 will have a better attach rate on popular games than the 360. That's what happens when there's less consoles out there and far less games to choose from. this is one case where attach rate is useless. Attach rate is only a usefull number when viewed as a total number against the total number of consoles. As for PSN. again they play the number by only using percentages, since the hard numbers just don't stack up to MS XBL numbers wich have been released. Again the percentages of how may more people are using PSN is useless, it's called natural progression, more people are able to useit as they buy PS3's and friends will sign up on their friends PS3's Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/668708-sony-responds-to-npd-results/#findComment-589785792 Share on other sites
