Vizio SV420XVT and Windows

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I bought a 42" Vizio SV420XVT 120hz LCD Saturday to replace my 37" Westinghouse LVM-37w3 monitor. I ordered a DVI-to-HDMI cable from monoprice since the Vizio does not have any DVI ports on it, and so far things are ok (besides not being able to get it calibrated correctly). One issue I've noticed is that windows detects it as a generic plug & play monitor. However, if I go into the nVidia Control Panel, it recognizes it as a SV420XVT1A. My video card is a GeForce 6800 Ultra. As of right now, Windows only gives me 2 refresh options: 50hz or 60hz.

Is there anyway to enable the refresh rate to go to 120hz with this TV, or am I stuck at 60hz? Right now, the text looks a little funky too (kind of jagged like ClearType isn't enabled even though it is). I'm still tweaking the colors too (everything is too damn bright at the moment). My Xbox 360 and DirecTV look fine on the TV, and my desktop doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look like it did with my Westinghouse (maybe that one was wrong to begin with and I just got used to it?). I'm just looking for some help with this. I know this is a pretty new tv, and it's only been available for maybe a month and a half or so, but I have a feeling this may start to bug me and I would like to keep the tv. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The resolution I'm using is 1920x1080. I'm also having a very hard time getting the colors right. I "thought" the tv had seperate settings for each input, but it doesn't seem like it does since the settings carried over from the input my Xbox 360 is on to the input my PC is on.

I don't have any other cables, that's why I had to order the DVI-to-HDMI cable. My card has dual DVI out on it, and I believe I'm using the top DVI port on the card. The tv does have a VGA input, but I opted to go the DVI/HDMI route instead. I just think it's weird that the nVidia Control Panel sees what kind of TV it is, but the basic windows settings just show it as a generic monitor.
