[Official] MS Tinker Custom Maps

Recommended Posts

Since the game Tinker was released today as an ultimate extra as well as the custom level builder i thought we needed a thread to post custom maps as the game itself only comes with 2 sets of maps.

This game is seriously fun, it's just like Valve's Portal, except 2d, but the gameplay is very similar. I've been working on this Level for the past 2 hours, hopefully it's at least a bit challenging.

Extract to C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Saved Games\Microsoft Games\Tinker i believe, and reload tinker.

btw.. i cannot find a way in the level editor to adjust time and moves.. it seems to be unlimited for custom maps :(

Ls,

You can adjust the energy for the bot with: select, then click the bot itself on the board. You can then adjust it in the right lower panel.

Time i dont know yet. I think it is only a par value, i dont think you die if time runs out. At least didnt notice yet.

Thanks for the level I have made some myself.

Made 5 levels sofar. Since i will be adding some more over time I have also uploaded them to this makeshift website where you will be able to download them in the future.

Enjoy  ,

Hi Bubbabyte,

Just played your level

Thank you, i'm really glad you hadn't found the engerty settings yet

Had to restart 4 times to get it fyi :x

BTW; do you know how to preselect or set the color of a floorswitch before using it?

So you could have like 7 red switchches that all have the same triggercolor.

With me it gives me a new color (almost)every time. Sometimes it starts over but I havent been able to find a way to enforce that.

Regards,

Mac

Hi all! (and thanks)

Where would I get help with the Tinker Level Editor please?

When I try to install it I get the following error and it will not install:

"You must have Tinker installed to install the Tinker Level Editor."

Tinker IS installed on my MS Vista Ultimate. (play it every few days)

Also, anyone know how to 'speed up' the robot? It really seems painfully slow to me especially

in the set 1, level 20.

Thank you

.

Read Xiphis post above for the download.

Hi LonelyCooler, (and thanks)

I did in fact read Xiphis' post above which lead me to the download for the Tinker Level Editor, which lead

me to the problem in my original post, which is reproduced below for your and everyone's convenience.

Hey, everyone.

I spent the last two days creating an extremely difficult level that, I have to imagine, is the most difficult one made for the game so far. Your Tinker and puzzle-solving skills will be stretched really far. The level is named Abominable and takes almost 200 turns to solve. I hope that you enjoy it. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I've uploaded it to the PlayTinker website (which seems to be the official website for the level editor and custom levels):

MacShrike, no, there doesn't appear to be a way to change/set the switch color. It's a really annoying limitation (at least in a complex level like mine). The only way around it that I found is to delete the switch if it's not the color that you want, lay again and repeat until you're happy. If you have a lot of room, you can speed things up by laying down a bunch of switches until you get the color that you want, then erase the rest and move the correct one to where you want it.

I found a loophole in the first version of Abominable that made it possible to solve it far too easily. So, I corrected that and made the map even harder. Now, it takes 225 moves to solve (unless I missed or introduced any other loopholes). Enjoy.

Sorry late for coffee.

I've just made my first 2 level, it's REALLY simple and quick. Working on 'harder' ones.

EDIT: I can't seem to register at Play Tinker. It keeps saying under my would-be username "Alphabets and numbers only". Um, I'm only trying to register with LETTERS.

So THIS is my first EASY level. This is my second easy one.

PS. Osprey -- that is VERY hard. lol

Osprey, abominable-v2 still has a loophole. I was able to solve it in 112 moves and in a method quite similar to how I solved the first version, which I was able to solve in 38 moves. :(

Getting rid of loopholes in these Tinker games may prove difficult the more complicated a game becomes. There are quite a few games on playtinker.com that can be solved in ways I don't think their authors intended. As a player, though, I think that is part of the thrill--being able to find shortcuts and tricks.

Keep up the good work! :punk:

Well since I'm STILL not able to register at the playtinker website. I keep getting this:

I went ahead and made my own site for my work (http://micwa.livejournal.com/)

I've uploaded all of the levels. I uploaded 3 of my custom levels. Now I just finished abominable v2 at only 86 moves. I've uploaded my playthrough on YouTube

Maybe it'll help him see what's going wrong. Or if he just wants to keep it this way.

Thanks. Yeah, someone posted a video response to the intended solution that I have on YouTube in which he demonstrated a shorter solution. You might try checking that out to see if it's the same solution that you came up with. Also, about the first version, yeah, my own finding of that really short solution is what prompted me to close the loophole and create the v2 version.

I think that you're right that the more complicated a level becomes, the harder it is to guard against loopholes. I don't mind so much that a few really bright people are finding loopholes, though. As you said, looking for and finding those are part of the thrill. As long as people get a lot of entertainment time out of the level, I'm happy. If it takes as long for someone to find a short solution as it is for another person to find the intended solution, then that's just as good. The only thing that I think is crucial is that it be hard and time-consuming to find any solution, whether it's, ultimately, in 225 moves or 112.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it, and thanks again.
