but thats for printing .txt files... this isn't a .txt file........ he already sent it to the printer almost...

Thats the bad thing, each printer has kinda different instructions, so he just printed to file, not like actual printinng to file FOR that printer....

get what i'm saying. I dont really know how to print a print file image. I was going to do the same thing for my school work because i don't own a printer, never did get it to work. Finally i ordered a printer right away then installed pdfwriter and i printed to .pdf file then emailed them to my school account and printed them off at school. Worked out perfect!!

I quote http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=22734:

RESOLUTION

Instead of using the standard Print command, you should use the COPY

command with the /B option to send the binary print file to the printer.

For example, if your printer was connected to LPT1 and you are trying to

send a binary print file named PR.PRN to the printer, type the following:

copy pr.prn lpt1: /b

Use this same method to print any document when you use the Print to File

option at the application level.

Hope that helps

I figured it out... go here (or just download it from this message). Make sure that your printer's settings are set to a printer port that includes your usual printer standards (e.g. COM1, COM2, etc.) and also set the port to "Print to File."

You can do this by (this is for Windows XP only, other OSes may be different):

1- Click Start

2- Click Printers and Faxes (you may need to go into control panel depending on your personal settings)

3- Right click the printer you will be using.

4- Click the tab that is labeled "Ports"

5- Scroll down until you see "Print to File"

Open the program and then follow the on-screen intructions. I know it's a lot of work, but it works perfectly as the command like "copy [filename].prn lpt1: /b" takes to long to send to the printer port, at least on my computer it did (took over 5 minutes). :D

Warning: If you are not paying attention to what you are doing you could accidentally delete your printer and render your printer port useless, but fixable. I recommend that you be an advanced troubleshooter for this program!

    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net prolem. This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
