Installing Valve games on two systems?

Recommended Posts

Just copy the folder over.

That won't work as Valve games use the Steam distribution system.

Just install Steam on your EEE PC using the installer found on www.steampowered.com.

You are allowed to log in at both system at the same time, you are also allowed to run the games on both systems at the same time.

You can't however play online with both systems at the same time.

If using only one system at the time, there should be no problems what so ever.

I often do that using multiple systems on several geological locations. Only problem so far is that when I played on my notebook, I had to reenter my password on my main system back home. But that's no biggie of course.

No actually all you need to do is copy the steam folder over and all the games work fine.

Ok yeah .. that could work. I meant copying the game folder wouldn't work. You can't run Steam-games without running Steam with the proper account (without hacking the system to little bits).

Also there is a backup system in the Steam application to make a local backup to install on another PC / on a later day.

I usually just redownload everything.Bandwith enough huh ^^

You can...

  • Install Valve games on two different systems via STEAM
  • Log into the same account simultaneously on two different computers, however only one can play online
  • Copy the STEAM folder to another computer, provided you have STEAM installed

yeah I just backup all my game folders. when I reformat I start downloading them until like 1% exit steam, copy the folders, start steam and it downloads whatever little bits are left over and they work perfectly. I have done this many times on my pc.

I had no idea you could do that :o ! That means my brother can play it on his notebook instead of borrowing mine whenever he wants to try Portal and HL2.

Scirwode

Yeah guys, where you been? =P

You can install Steam on anything, it is free after all. Once logged in, the games can be downloaded on any and every computer you'd want to, but you can only play online from one at a time.

Also, I too backup the steamapps folder, All those gcf files are the games themselves and it would save you time from downloading.

See, Steam is reasonable DRM that works well and doesn't screw over the consumer!

Too true my friend, too true.

Will those games even run well on an Eee PC? :|

I doubt the Source games will run well. The older games will run great though.

Me and my brother use the same account on 2 different PCs have so for a while now with no problems one could play single player and the other multiplayer at the same time but now whenever he logs in it signs me out of steam anyone else having the same problem?

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • Fascinating...W h i t e P o w e r is now also asterisks out.
    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
