I have a friend who is attempting to set up a wireless network and I have a question I need to ask in order to assist him.

I have setup basic wired and wireless connections previously but that?s probably out of luck.

This is what has wants to do

Phone Line  BT wired ADSL Modem  Linksys Wireless router //////wireless////////  Laptop 

Is this the right configuration e.g. must the wired ADSL modem first before the wireless router?

Sorry for such a noob question.

I haven?t supplied the models numbers as we?re both at work.

Thanks for the input

That is totally correct. ADSL modem is connected before wireless. If it is a standard wireless router without a modem then simply plug the ethernet from ADSL modem into port on the router. Should be marked which one to plug it into. Then voila.

I have a similar question.

My housemate is using Windows XP SP2 with an Intel Celeron M processor. The laptop has an access point for a wireless card, however I am not sure if she needs it to connect to our router?

I have had a look at the network settings and it doesn't seem to want to search for a wireless network. I am a little confused as I thought Celeron processors came with built-in wireless capabilities?

It seems she has the wireless capabilities wired into the laptop without an extra card but it doesn't seem to want to connect to the router? Router is a Netgear DG834G which is set to broadcast it's wireless network, but needs a key to access it.

Thanks

Have a quick look around the latop for a switch with a little wireless logo next to it, it could be switched off.

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.
