There are tolerance of power delivery specifications with all electronic components inside the computer, but I doubt that a good portion of the hardware inside the computer right now is designed to withstand poor voltage regulation and power delivery for extended periods of time to say the least.

BTW safety is also an issue. :p

Price is not necessarily an indicator of PSU quality. It's a good benchmark when someone's looking for a product in the $10-$20 range, but I've seen quality PSUs on sale for $30-40, or cheap low power units from a quality manufacturer.

Again, it wasn't really aimed at anyone in this discussion, more at some of the self-annointed experts at some of the bigger hardware sites, where a lot of this stuff gets cooked up.

Yes, I agree that they may not be as good as other PSUs, but for most builds even the ones from the lesser series will work just fine.

Well yeah, you don't really need an Antec Signature or a Corsair HX620 for a budget system. However, I'm not saying buying a 500W Antec Basiq for a budget system is preferable over an Antec Earthwatts.

Suggestions against the GameXstreams and StealthXstreams stem mostly from principal, if you've got to have it, then sure go ahead and get it. However, if the ripple is a problem during heavier loads, it's essentially like buying a Deer that can't output max wattage, only in this case it is a problem whose effects are long term and hard to diagnose.

Anyway, I'd disagree with the whole "you can trust this company" because what will you do the day that they put out a crappy product? Or a not-so-great-company doesn't? Throw your company biases out the window and focus on model to model comparisons. Look at Thermaltake and Rosewill.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Earthwatt?(or any other equivalent) is better than the Basiq (or its respective equivalent). However, when talking about a system of that "level", it would be much better to invest the extra money in a faster GFX card, better processor, bigger hdd, etc. than in the PSU.

That is because those are upgrades that will actually have a tangible effect on the system, the "low end" PSU (please note that I'm not talking about the $10 crap but about the lower end Decent stuff) can handle those systems perfectly well, the only gains from a better PSU will come in the form of less noise or somewhat higher efficiency.
