Cancelled TV Shows 2008/2009

Eureka needs to go on the likely canceled list after the stuff they dumped on us this season. :(

Eureka was great I just didn't likethe guys whose name I cant remember atm being killed.other then that the season finale was great and I still enjoy the story.

I'm told that financier and producer Media Rights Capital has canceled two of the four shows it put on The CW after being given the rare opportunity to program a network's Sunday nights. Both Valentine and Easy Money had been put on hiatus with skeleton crews while more scripts were written. Now both series are on permanent hiatus, which is a nicer way of saying they've been cancelled. MRC still has authority to program Sunday nights on The CW for the entire 2008-2009 season so it'll be choosing two replacement shows right away.

King of the Hill May Live On!

There's an outside chance that Fox's canceled veteran animated series "King of the Hill" could reign again.

Sources say ABC, which is rolling out midseason animated comedy ?The Goode Family? -- from ?King? co-creator Mike Judge -- is eyeing the veteran Fox toon.

A spokesman for producer 20th Century Fox TV would only confirm "another network is interested" in the show. ABC had no comment and, to be clear, this is still the discussion phase.

At a time when shows are being renewed while earning modest 2.4 adult demo ratings, the current 13th season of ?King? is averaging a 3.4 -- nearly as much as CBS? breakout freshman drama ?The Mentalist.? Sunday's edition, boosted by "The Simpsons" annual Halloween episode, hit a season high.

While a possible pairing of ?King? and ?Goode? would make a lot of sense for ABC as animated shows perform best when partnered with other animated shows, creating a Judge block could be logistically difficult.

?King? takes nine months to produce new episodes due to the animation work involved. So while ?Goode? is slated for midseason, ?King? wouldn't be ready until next fall. If ABC orders ?King? and ?Goode? flops ? the network is left with an expensive half-hour animated show next fall with no partner. Plus, ABC wouldn't want its "King" to air at the same time as Fox's "King."

One source hinted the network might just opt for a script order -- which would getting the ball rolling on another "King" season, while leaving the network time to test "Goode" on the air.

Another option for "Hill" is to move to cable. But between cost of the show's animation and voice talent, ?King? is considered pricey and likely too rich for a small network, such as Adult Swim.

If ABC were to pick up the show, it would mark the second series to change broadcast networks in the past year -- the first being "Scrubs" move from NBC to ABC. ABC also expressed interest in CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine" when the show was on the bubble last year. All three titles are half-hour shows, a format the network has had some difficulty programming.

For anyone else that's a fan of the Unit, it is performing a bit better than the list shows, with the reason being that they moved it to Sunday night and I think every episode this season with the exception of 1 has started at least 30 min late, royally upsetting me when I see it isn't being recorded properly on the DVR. Just saying...;)

NBC has pulled the plug on freshman tentpole drama "My Own Worst Enemy" and returning sophomore series "Lipstick Jungle," sources say.

The cancellation comes after both shows dropped to new lows in the ratings in recent weeks, with the Christian Slater action series sinking to a 1.8 among adults 18-49 (4.3 million viewers) on Monday night and "Lipstick" falling to a 1.2 (3.3 million viewers) on Friday.

Though the "Lipstick" number was an improvement on the previous week, the show's ratings have been below the line for a while now, and sunk into the red zone after the drama moved to Fridays.

NBC's expectation for the return of "Lipstick" was modest, but "Enemy" was considered an important show. A spy thriller with a grown-up budget inspired by the Bourne movies, "Enemy" received NBC's coveted post-"Heroes" time period. That valuable Monday hour of scheduling real estate has become less worthwhile in recent weeks, however, as "Heroes" shed viewers -- weakening the lead-in for "Enemy" and hastening its decline.

Well, that didn't take long. Never saw My Own Worst Enemy appealing at all.

I watch maybe a few hours of TV a week, and that is when im in bed so I never saw it, but seeing Christian Slater in the promo's made me not want to watch it, he looks like a huge douche bag.

I'd rather have these scripted crappy show than another "Bachelor" or "Biggest Loser" any day. I never understood all these "time-slot" management. It's stupid how time can make a break a show. If it's good enough, it'll last. Don't blame it on time slots. I mean I understand that contending Heroes or Lost up against that POS American Idol could create conflict for those idiots who'd rather watch crappy wannabe's than a well scripted/acted show, but the fact is that American Idol is still a POS. AI really needs to end. God I hate is so much!

I agree it can be confusing at times even from watching it from day 1.... But I actually thought Christian Slater did a decent job acting for the show...better than some of the stuff he had done in the past...I was actually getting into the show more and hoping they were going to explain just how the chip in his brain faulted....Then we might know and understand more of where the show was headed...but it is just like a big loop just going in circles of basically the same story over and over...but I think it did/does have potential but they are not acting fast enough to explain and show more of how things came to be...As like HEROES they are just now showing how everyone got their powers and explaining things very well...they should follow suit....

    • I don’t get why if I bought the game on the last get I needed to pay $40 to upgrade to the new version in the first place and people who love the game and play a lot would have upgraded already so this is just PR and a chance to grab new players who forgot the game long time ago I think
    • The term "use" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that headline. "Use" can mean opening ChatGPT occasionally to ask for the definition of a word or information about a specific topic. If you frame the question around how many people use it as a daily driver in their work or personal lives, that number is a lot smaller. Those are the people who pay for AI. Nearly everyone else is happy to use it for free, but doesn't see enough value in it to pay for it.
    • No support for Windows Hello!
    • I think you meant the "ntfs3" driver, but yes there have been a lot of fixes for it in this release and previous releases, not 100% sure if the issue you mentioned is fixed though. In any case, the new "ntfs" driver in 7.1 doesn't have that issue (at least, no reports of such have come thru), but your kernel needs to explicitly enable support for the new driver first (like how CachyOS kernel has it), and you need to edit your mount points in /etc/fstab to use "ntfs" instead of the other drivers.
    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
