i dont think its the codec pack - i can watch movies on my pc and on youtube for exmple...

movie clips in news website

here is a link to one - http://news.walla.co.il/?w=/4560/1356454

tell me what you guys need from me to better understanding the problem...

thnks;

You using any custom themes? I mean any themes not from Microsoft. I have heard of IE crashing randomly with 3rd party themes on video sites. Also-- Some links to these sites that give you issues would be helpful so we can determine what type of videos you are trying to watch... And the FireFox suggestion would help rule out some things as well. Not to mention If Firefox Crashes as well...I would suggest for Firefox only retry that site but right click as the page loads and choose switch page direction.

and i dont know for sure - to tell you the truth - if i have a 3rd party addones - i reset the setting in my IE and even rule out all the addones by cancle completly them and retrying to enter those webpages... but still the same thing happens....

i uninstall the vista codec pack and the problem is still going on... but something strage accourd while i went to the remove program window in control panel - i found a codec pack al in 1 - but i cant uninstall it because it says that "no installtion file has found" and also when i went to the dirctory "program files" i didnt found it ... maybe it nothing ...

anyway the vista codec pack was completly removed and the problem is still alive....

:(

That's the problem with those unofficial codec packs. They are often repackaged versions of another company's product so there may not be a way to remove them by simply uninstalling them. Which one was it? Perhaps another Neowin user might know how to remove it.

Has this problem been with you ever since you got your laptop? Or has it only just started?

Have you made any software changes such as upgrading Internet Explorer or downloading anything that would affect viewing videos (other than codecs)

What kinds of videos? Is it things like youtube videos or flash?

Also have you made any hardware changes - like put any new things in the laptop? It may be a video card incompatibility

If you are still clueless - try downloading and installing this:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...lash_player.exe

i install the flash plugin you ask me to - but still the same thing happend...

i did not made any change in my explorer - i gave some links of the videos - i think this is flash videos .. this problem began 2 month ago and i got my lap top for a year - and no hardware change at all...

i dont understand it...

Hmm sorry friend i have no other solutions.

The only other thing i could suggest is moving to another internet browser such as Firefox or Opera.

I will continue to search into this issue but i am not sure if i will find much =\

Sorry.

Can you tell me where the videos are on the page? Or do you have a page that's in English or French that the videos crash on? I can't read either site to navigate them.

thanks you mate...

i tried it out with google new browser but still cannot see movies - but at least the browser dont shutdown...

i still cant understand microsoft for refusing to help me... without me paying for a lab tech...:/

im sure someone here know what to do...

again thnks for the effort my friend

They are in the middle of the page.. but is it the flash banners that are making you crash or the videos when you navigate to them?

Try this:

1. Open up IE7

2. Go to 'Tools' then 'Internet Options'

3. Click the 'Advanced' tab

4. Go down to 'Multimedia' then under that untick the box that says 'Play animations in webpages*'.

After you have done that close Internet Explorer then open it again. Try then.

If it fails then........ i have no other solution =\

didnt work.... :/ thnks again!

Okay the first links you gave -- don't seem to be the standard Flash- I can see the ads but when it switches over to the news I get a green screen.

The second link the Sony Link seems to be for portable media format. The picture with I(symbol) updates.

The other links seem to work... But I am in Firefox--- Also tried Firefox under Wine 1.1.0-1.1.5 =

Links work fine as well---

The last links appear to be... Flash Player 9.

I am unsure about the IUPDATES one but the other ones... You Possibly could try reinstalling FLash Player.

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

Now if that does not want to work then possibly try the beta... I have heard mixed reviews...Some say works very well... but some say sites work but slow and random pauses even though video bar moves.. But the video picks right back up..

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/

NOTICE THAT IS A PRERELEASE

Now as far as your Media player issue-- do a search -- for .msi or .msu files that appear to have WMP11... right click on that file (choose run as administrator)_if in vista. then choose the repair option.

Also it could be a video driver issue if you are trying to view them full screen.

Is it also possible that-- your network may have the sites blocked>?

YOu could try the firefox option and install the .WMP plugin.

Then also they make a different plugin for the Flash Player For Firefox-- YOu install FireFox then goto Http://www.adobe.com

    • I am not a US citizen nor a Trump fan. Respect to both left and right. But I will, for the sake of fun, predict something for my own. There will come a day when the US and China will collide like titans ( over Taiwan or anything else ). Then, on that day, some people in this comment section will realize how good an idea it was to become independent in areas like that. ( Or atleast try )
    • Microsoft Edge gets tons of security features, including AI model that can see your screen by Usama Jawad Microsoft Edge may not be the most popular browser out there, but it does receive quite frequent updates that sometimes bring surprising new features and axe others that are not as popular. Now, Microsoft has detailed some of the new security enhancements that it has introduced in Edge for Business, typically used by commercial customers. Microsoft has emphasized that security features are baked into Edge for Business and offer native integration with security and governance tools like Defender and Purview. Browser sessions are governed by default on managed devices but can also be governed through dedicated work profiles on unmanaged devices. An important aspect in this area is controlling the use of shadow AI. We have talked about this before, but it essentially restricts employees from using unsanctioned AI apps through data loss prevention (DLP) policies, with Edge redirecting them to trusted AI services like Microsoft 365 Copilot. This feature, available as a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) license, ensures that confidential data never exits AI boundaries set by your organization in Purview. Additionally, Microsoft also has strong DLP policies for contractors. Contractors leveraging a Entra ID-joined work profile provisioned by their contracting company on a device managed by their actual employer can be restricted from downloading files locally. In such scenarios, the file is saved on the contracting firm's OneDrive rather than being downloaded locally. Another useful Edge security feature disallows copying and pasting from unmanaged locations and apps. Similarly, DLP policies can be configured at a granular level to restrict screenshots or downloading of files from certain locations. In the same vein, IT admins can block the installation of extensions, hosted apps, themes and scripts, and control if users can install extensions from external locations. They can also enable the installation of specific extensions and allow users to request access to certain extensions, so that they can be managed on a case-by-case basis. Finally, Edge for Business now has an on-device AI model that uses computer vision to see what's on your screen and block potentially malicious content immediately. This does not rely on site reputation, as it simply monitors what is being displayed on your screen, which means that it is effective against malicious content that takes over your screen and employs scareware tactics. Since this is an on-device AI model, it does use your system's resources, so it's enabled by default only on devices with at least 2GB of RAM and four CPU cores. You can find more details in the Microsoft Mechanics video here.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
