Bond's Walther PPK Returning?

PPK.jpg

I was flicking through the image gallery of the upcoming Bond film, Quantum of Solace, and I couldn't help but notice that he is holding his previous trademark weapon, the Walther PPK, and this puzzled me as Casino Royale, despite being a reboot, still continued to depict Bond with the Walther P99, in which the Brosnan Bond used since the second-half of Tomorrow Never Dies.

Anyone heard about a revert to the PPK?

I understand the symbolism behind the PPK being used, but at the same time see the need for a refresh. The PPK has been around since WW2. I mean, it's still a Walther, and the P99 is a bad ass looking gun too.

Question, why does a British special agent use German handguns?

For the same reason people like german cars, excellent hardware.

James Bond used a Walter 2000 sniper rifle in The Living Daylight (One of the few Bond movies with Timothy Dalton)

Wiston Churchill is famous to have a Mauser C96 pistol in the Sudanese war ...

Most police forces buy domestic, but I'd assume since he's so specialized, they'd pick the better performer vs. the domestic choice. Like a police force choosing a Porsche over the usual Crown Vic.

The purpose of the police cruiser isn't just to go fast. The Crown Vic is not only less expensive, it's better suited for all the needs of an American police officer vs a Porsche.

Even in Germany the police officers don't drive Porsche's where they'd be much less expensive compared to buying them in the US and they'd be a "local" economy. They drive VW Passat's or something similar.

There is a problem with the Crown Vic. They have been know to explode when the cruiser is hit from the rear. The Gas tank is vulnerable. An officer here was burned over 70 % oif his body when he was rear ended by a drunk driver. Some departments have stopped using them.

I thought that most of those cruisers were V8 versions, which could probably beat about 80-90% (if not more) of civilian cars on the roads in the aspect of speed (some cars may have better handling).

One department in my area has chargers with brackets on the front, similar to this:

Reminds me of a shark the way they sit near the ramps waiting for someone unsuspecting to go by haha

That doesn't exactly answer my question, nor does it make sense.

They did refresh the weapon...over ten years ago, from the PPK to the P99, so I don't understand your point. My question was, were they returning to the PPK.

It may just be a backup weapon too.

Judging by the size that looks more like the P99 then a PPK. Maybe he's just using both :)

Understood, although I disagree, the weapon shown in that picture looks nothing like the P99, or the PPK; that's obviously just a random weapon, most likely taken in a scene where his usual array of weapons are absent.

And from here on in, we all get a little off topic. Plus, on your second point, that's irrelevant as that weapon is used for five minutes and not as a primary, I am speaking in terms of trademark weapon.

I was thinking about how badass the P99 looks with the silencer in Casino Royale

Agreed; and in that movie, he only fires one shot with the silencer on it and that's in the post-title sequence in the embassy.

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • Fascinating...W h i t e P o w e r is now also asterisks out.
    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
