No, but if one of your drives fail you'll have nothing left. And it could be argued that you have "double" the chance of losing all your data (two drives, both with the possibility of failure)

It'll be ~1.2TB. It'll only count as one 640GB drive you're doing RAID 1, which offers a bit of redundancy.

It's not hard to RAID two or more drives. After you're done building the computer, you tell the BIOS to run the drives in RAID instead of IDE... go into the RAID BIOS.. and setup the stripe.

It's SO worth the extra speed and space with a RAID 0 setup. No having to worry about transferring data between drives; Windows thinks you have only one really fast drive! Just make sure you back up you important data more often than not.

Make sure you back up your data often. As the pun goes, with RAID 0 if one of your drives fail you'll have exactly 0 data to recover.

Do you have an external to back your data up on? It's really up to you, but having another hard drive in addition to 2 640 AAKS doesn't seem like an efficient use of money just for RAID 0 :p

yeah. It'll be a huge upgrade. Right now I'm using an amd ath 64 3000, 1gb of ram and an ati x800. The only upside is the dual dell 24" monitors

For backup, you could get four identical drives (a.k.a. four of the 640 drives) and run two sets of Stripe RAID and Mirror RAID those two. It'll be a nice redundancy backup, and doable with your large budget.

That works too if you're looking for redundancy. IMO RAID 0 with 2x 640 AAKS + 1TB backup or an external works just as well :p

Really up to the OP and how much of his massive budget he wants to use.
