Another new mac user here too :) Think my background is a bit garish though!

For future reference, you don't need to open Grab to take a screenshot. Cmd+Shift+3 takes a picture of the whole screen, and puts it on your desktop. Cmd+Shift+4 lets you drag a selection area around what you want to screenshot. If you press space after pressing Cmd+Shift+4, you can click on a window you want to capture. :)
