[Rumour] Mass Effect 2 to Have 5 Player Co-Op

Recommended Posts

So take this one with a huge grain of salt, as it's one of those he said/she said kind of things. According to a post on CoG there was a link on a Norwegian board to a Gamespot article detailing a bunch of features for the upcoming Mass Effect sequel. The link has since been pulled, but the information is still available. Amongst all the nugget of goodness that will be in ME2 is a new expanded squad (up to 5) and the ability to bring human players into that squad for full 5 player co-op.

Some other rumored features of interest include the ability to import your Mass Effect 1 character, a raised level cap of 120, and weapon customization. According to the post the game is set to have a 6 month timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft for the Xbox 360, because even though Microsoft Game Studio published the first title, Electronic Arts now owns the rights.

Again, right now this is firmly filed under the RUMOR category, but it's one that we truly hope is true.

There isn't really anything unfeasable in that.

and it doesn't say that you will be able to fill the whole team of 5 with other players, just that you can invite other players to your team. They'd have to change some tings for that though, like the vehicle sequences, it'd be ratherboring to allways be a passenger. though I suppose one could be a gunner, and maybe you could use certaine powers while in a vehicle too.

Wouldn't really care about Co-Op in ME I don't think.

It's a SP experience for me.

edit: If this is true also, they BETTER not dumb down the RPG element and turn ME2 into more of an action game or something to support Co-Op. My wish for the RPG infused KOTOR was replaced with the action title Force Unleashed, I don't want ME going action.

Didn't Mass Effect, while I haven't personally played it, involve some pausing to change weapons or something like that in the game?

So wouldn't having 5 people playing at once kind of take away from that feature?

Or was that not a good thing in the first game?

And the one but last line, Wii version confirmed! :p

Wouldn't take it away, you would just have 4 guys active and one guy standing idle while he's in the menu doing his thing. One preson pressing pause doesn't affect the others.

Maybe, but unlike other games, like say racers and the such, when you pause the game, its not something you spend a lot of time doing in the single player game and isn't really part of it.

But doesn't it pause the whole game in Mass Effect?, so your changing weapons and such like, while you may be paused, your 4 mates and the bad guys arent, so you coudl easily be killed surely?

Unless it wasn't like that in Mass Effect and it doesnt pause the whole game while doing such actions, I can't really remember, I have only seen a friend playing a while ago.

I don't think that would work, it would make the person who is currently in the menu vulnerable to attack. Possibly what they'll do is make the weapons/powers switch real-time, then it would work for human co-op.

I'm not to fussed about the co-op, I wouldn't mind if it was purely single player again like ME1, I'd still get it :D the one feature I'm quite excited about though, is the ability to import your ME1 character. Anyway, I can't wait for ME2 to be released and I'll definitely pick it up soon as it comes out

The pause really wouldn't be neccessary if each player is only controlling one character. With the way ME1 works you need to control the movements and abilities of 3 people so without the pause you'd never have time to fire your own gun, but if you're only responsible for yourself it wouldn't be too much to manage your own powers in real time and still fire away.

That's why you communicate, which is something that should be done in co-op. "Hey guys, we got no enemies around, give me a sec going to change weapons." Rest of the squad waits for you. Yes you are vulunerable to attack, but if you went to switch weapons out in the middle of a fight, that's err stupid. That's of course assuming it's like ME1. If it is, then the way it should work would be you go pause, action continues around you.
