[UK] Anyone on O2's "Access" package?

Recommended Posts

Apparently the 'Access' package is all I can get in my area, and it seems I'd be paying more than the 'Ultimate' (highest) package for less than I'd get with the 'Standard' (lowest) package.

Is it any good? Do you think I have an alternative?

Virgin Media also tell me my area is not covered so I have e-mailed them to see exactly what I can get. I am awaiting a response.

Access is more because you are not in a LLU with o2/be equipment, which so money has to go to BT and you are also i the hands of BT. It is meant to okay and is still good value, so when LLU does become available they will move you over.

I can't see O2 automatically moving me over without charging me somehow, or making me renew my contract :/

I'm on o2's Access Package and it is excellent. Latency is well within acceptable limits, I get almost maximum throughput for the 8mb speed and for what it is its very good. No download caps or traffic throttling which is always a bonus :D

O2 have been moving people over (for free, on the same contract) when LLU has become available. It's in their best interests to move you onto LLU as it's a hell of a lot cheaper for them to manage. Waiting for them to move me over to LLU myself and have checked it's a free process with the same contract -- when they finally get around to doing my local exchange.

Definitely recommend o2 as an ISP.

I'm in the same boat as the guy above - very happy with the service. Freephone UK customer services is a nice bonus too. The reason they have to charge so much for the Access package is that they are paying BT Wholesale ?12.50 per month as your exchange isn't unbundled. Don't hold your breath for it to be unbundled anytime soon though.:))

Anyone got any idea when my local (Nottingham, center) PPU will be unbundled?

Only Nottingham one I can find is Longbow: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EMLONGB

No date currently set :( Out of the ISPs available at that exchange, I would still suggest the O2 Access Package.

Edit: looks like theres 6 in nottingham (only 1 with nottingham in the name) so take your pick http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange...Nottingham+City

Non seem to be in the center :(

Oh well, Access package it is I guess!

On Sam Knows front page enter your post code or phone number to see the exact details of your exchange.

Apparently my local exchange is Nottingham Longbow, which doesn't support 'O2/Be' :(

Do I have to pay BT ?11 a month for the line rental and the ?17.50 to O2 for the broadband for their connection?

If so, very expensive for what I get!

Yea:(:( On the upside, the day LLU becomes available in your exchange (not long if they're in the process of upgrading the others in the city) they will lower your price to ?7.50/mo until they move you to LLU.

Least I'll get a phone number with that rental though, yep?

I only just moved to Nottingham. But you'd figure a City of this size would be one of the first places to get set up with this stuff. I'm living in NG7, and with OneTel. Its perfect apart from the throttling during peak hours, which makes online games impossible to play.

I previously lived in NG7 4ER (very close to the town center) and could get the maxed out Virgin Media package. I'll miss it.
